i have a few wwi planes that are balsa covered with your usual shrink what can i do as far as giving them that old used look. possibly paint who knows? i just want them to look like they have been used in service, give them that scale look. is there something i can brush on over the monokote to get rid of the gloss and make it flat.

I sprayed mine with a coat of Matte Finish clear Krylon. If you really want to make it looked used add oil streaks back from the engine, mud on the wheels and lower wings where it would have been thrown. Take a look at some pictures and I am sure you will get more ideas. One on the things I do is give my pilots a wash of black acrylic paint thined about 50% with water and a couple of drops liquid soap.

A lot of guys use Scotch Brite pads to dull the finish

I sprayed mine with a coat of Matte Finish clear Krylon.
I use a variety of clear matte sprays (pilfered from the wife). Try it on a piece of scrap first. I've also used the clear glosses to get super shiny when needed too.
