After I built my Wal flying boat, I realized I would need a rescue boat to go out and retrieve the plane when it crashes or flips over off-shore. Torn between a Coast Guard cutter or a PT boat, I decided on the PT. A spool of monofilament line is anchored on shore, the boat pulls the line from the spool out to the crash site. The first 10 feet of line has small floats to keep it on the surface so it will snag the plane.
Twice already it has saved me from having to swim for my plane.

I chose "17" just because the numbers were easy to cut from a sheet of Ultracote.
It's funny, during the build I would catch myself whistling the theme from McHale's Navy.
