Hi all, recently purchased a Sebart Angel S30 with the idea of practicing pattern and eventual entry into Sportsman class. It has been built stock using all of the recommended Hacker motor and 50A speedy. I found using the recommended Lipo battery 3 cell 2150 (in my case 2200mAH), that flight times were very limited (6 to 6 1/2 minutes) and the plane was extremely floaty. I have since changed to a 13x6.5 prop, and have run 3300mAH batteries which have increased flight times to around 8+ minutes and the plane is now easier to get down.

I would like to know about any one elses experience with this model from a pattern flying perspective. Seems like I have 2 choices to go from this point:

1) Strap 2 x 2200mA packs in parallel to give me 4400mA and at the same time swap the prop to an ultra light wooden prop of 13x8 (as I would prefer more speed than I currently have).
or
2) Go 4 cell to reduce current demand and go smaller in prop diameter and again increase pitch slightly.

My initial impressions of this model are very positive, and I believe it has huge potential for introduction into pattern flying, but I think the recommended setup is a compromise between 3D and a pattern ship. I would prefer to have a plane that is one or the other - not both.

I look forward to your opinions and experience.
Bruce.

Hey Bruce
I have the 50E, not the 30E but your comments and experiences are similar to the the 50E. The book setup (like control throws) were really for a 3D setup on the 50 and needed taming for F3A practice.
Many that flew it with a lighter battery found it too light. If you have two batteries to parallel-up to a 4400 pack, go for it. The planes are so light that the extra weight is fine. My 50 snaps better (recoveries are better controlled) with the bigger battery and they track through the loops better.
A bigger prop running slower is best for pattern - and they provide better braking on downlines where a smaller prop may let the model speed up too much.

Like I said - my experiences are with the 50 but they will probably stand for the 30 :)

Hi,
Strange. I just posted a similar question.
I bought some 3000maH 3S thinking the weight would be better for pattern practice. Only trouble is, even with a 13 X 10 prop, the duration is only 5 or 6mins with 10% remaining. Temperatures have been low but not enough to effect it too much. I was beginning to think they had meant 4S. I now am wondering of the effect of going to 4S with the extra weight. What prop could be suggested to keep the amps down a bit and yet give some more power, which although I get quite good almost unlimited verticals is only for the short duration. Idealy, I would like unlimited verticals and at least 8min duration.
Has anyone any suggestions? Apart from that it is a great model - just cant fly for long - and still. I get lots of take off and landing practise but thats not marked!
