I'm close to buying an old Antoinette. She's got a 71" wing span and used to fly with a .40. Flying weight was about 6lb with the nitro motor. No idea what she weighs now.

I'm trying to get an idea of motor/esc/battery combo before I committ to the plane. Total cost is, of course, a factor.

I'm looking for a large, slow, stand offish scale type plane - if anyone can suggest something else

Unless it's very scale, with lots of scale detail to get to that 6 lbs, and you really want it, I would suggest building one genuinely for electric.

At 71" span, it could/should be nearer 4 lbs, it would fly much more scale like, (slow), and you could still have a reasonable amount of scale detail.

I built a 1912 Blackburn some 20 years ago for electric, (admittedly only 56" span), it weighed just over 3 1/2 lbs including the heavy can motor and nicad battery pack, and an over weight construction. Today I'm sure I could build one around 2 1/2 lbs flying.

I'm currently building an 88" vintage model, and I will be surprised if it go over 5 lbs.

Weight, usually means higher speed, heavier landings etc.

If you really haven't got the time to build, then buy the Antionette, I'm sure there will be plenty of replies suggesting a suitable power system.

Good luck with your decision.
