Hello everyone,

Some may know me from RCG, just checking out the new kid on the block. :)

I've been doing digital still photos from Slowsticks for a few years now. I've just started to explore video editing. Best tip: shoot in calm air and use minimal control inputs.

Here's one of my latest flights. Please right-click on a file and click "save as..."

small, 4.6mb: http://www.stcroixap.rchomepage.com/video/NorthHudsonSM.wmv
large, 24mb: http://www.stcroixap.rchomepage.com/video/North%20Hudson.wmv

Specs:
Slowstick, NB 1812/100 brushless, 3s lipo
Nikon Coolpix 3700, 640x480 @ 30fps, up to 8 minutes on 512mb card
.mov converted to .wmv with MS Windows Media Encoder
.wmv edited and compressed with MS Windows Movie Maker 2

Beautiful Video! Scenic and outstanding quality.

You can't beat 640x480 30fps for TV like quality.

Karl,
Great video & great flying. Sure is no room for error where you are flying. Keep up the great work. Hope to see more of it. Been some years since I was in the Hudson area (St. Croix Meadows), had forgotten how beautiful it is. Hope to see more from you.

Thanks everyone. It's almost as fun putting together the vids as it is flying. This was the first time I dared fly from this location, as the landing won't tolerate any wind. It got the perspective I was looking for, which was the Willow River dams, the RR and former auto piers, and of course the party sandbar islands. Not sure which, but one of them is actually named "Beer Can Island." More broken glass than cans... :)

Been some years since I was in the Hudson area (St. Croix Meadows), had forgotten how beautiful it is. Hope to see more from you. SC Meadows still stands, but has been vacant as long as I have lived in the area (5 years). I have a few others on my video page: http://stcroixap.rchomepage.com/video

:)

On the drive to Bayfield (stills are located here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=411616)), WI for vacation, I shot some video footage from the St. Croix Falls dam in St. Croix Falls, WI/Taylors Falls, MN.

Right-click and save:

edit: the St. Croix Falls movie has been pulled to make room for more recent movies. Check http://www.stcroixap.rchomepage.com/video/ (http://www.stcroixap.rchomepage.com/video/SCF.wmv) to see what's currently on my site.

Incredible videos. How did you mount the camera? I tried some videos with my Estarter years ago but I couldn't figure out how to get rid of the vibration when the motor was running.

Your videos inspired me. I am thinking about resurecting one of my old Slow Sticks and having another go at this.

I have the camera rigidly mounted to the airframe. The only vibration I see is if I gain too much speed in a dive, but that's caused by wing and tail flutter!

CMOS cameras are susceptable to vibration since the sensor does a line-by-line scan. CCD cameras do better, since they grab each image all at once. I also carefully balanced my prop, as well as the rotor bell of my outrunner Nippy.

There are pics of my mounting setup and other mods here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4388197&postcount=29) and here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4401651&postcount=17).

I think maybe my problem may have been the fact that I was still using a geared system. I have a feeling the direct drive brushless would be alot smoother.
