Does anyone out there know if the Astro 109 charger automatically balance a set of li-po batteries? The instructions I got with mine say nothing about this. It would be nice if it did, since it is a bit expensive.

Unless the battery has provisions for connecting to each cell no charger can balance LiPo batteries. If it does then you can use the Astro 109 (or any other charger for LiPos) to charge the cells individually in sequence, (not all at once) to bring them all to the same voltage level.

Balancing involves having access to each cell in the pack, determining it's voltage and ensuring that it is charged correctly. There are devices sold to do that. Thunder Power makes one.

thanks for the note about the 109 charger: I just saw the device from Thunder Power last night in a magazine I was reading. Now the trick is to find one. I am in luck A local hobby shop is into electric big-time, and if they don't have it they will get it. Now the trick is to afford the thing: no idea of cost. But, from what I can find out, the more you use a set of li-po batteries, the more you need to make sure they are balanced. Thanks again. RogerQ.

Astro is about to launch a balancer that can be used with the 109 and it will only be about $25.00. Check the Astro Web site. It is about to become available.

Fred: thanks a heap for the note aabout AStro coming out with a balancer that will work with the 109. By the way, somehow everyone is writing my name, I think the European way, with a D. I spell it the English way, as follows: Roger. Anyhow, thanks a bunch again. The Astro charger is so neat, and it really is good Bob is coming out with a balancer that is cheap. Roger

FWIW, I got word that my order of the Astro "Blinkie" balancers were shipped Friday. So retailers should have them in stock soon.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 1.4 and 1.5 software for the Astro 109 charger?

From what I understand the only difference is the beep tones that the Astro emits between charging phases. Mine are both 1.5 versions and the Astro beeps when going from phase 1 to phase 2, and from phase 2 to phase 3.

TP offers two balancers the model 205 & the model 210.
The model 205 balances 2-5 cells
The model 210 2-10 cells.

The REALITY is the model 210 won't be out before Christmas.
