I built and flew a powered gullwing sailplane in the mid-60's. I think it was called the Seagull. Wingspan about 48" (but could have been smaller) with an 020 Pee Wee on a pod. It was a tractor.

It was single channel rudder-only using an escapement which I still have!

It was a chunky, but graceful little bird that looks similar to a Berkeley Super Sinbad, but with gullwings.

I'm thinking it was kitted by Guillow's, but I could be completely wrong on that.

I would like to find plans for it if they exist. I'm not much for gluing sticks together anymore, but I have a friend who is willing to scratch build it from plans for a consideration. I think it would be an interesting electric model.

40 years later I'm struggling with a Slow Stick and an Easy Star, but I often think back how much fun that little Gulliver was laying back in the grass on a summer day cycling that rudder.

Update 06-09-06

I woke up out of a sound sleep last night and remembered it was called Gulliver, not Seagull. I searched the web this morning and the only reference to it I could find was Chuck Anderson saying how unstable it was directionally, but that he had designed a better version called the Tern for RCM. The Tern looks similar, but does not have the distinctive gull wings.

Chuck also said Gulliver appeared in Flying Models around 63 or 64, but I can't find plans for it in the FM Plans Index. So, I ordered plans for the Tern, but would still like to find plans for Gulliver.

I like searching for things, so I hope this link might help, it's to the AMA plans and there are some Gulliver and Gull Wing plans listed -

http://www.modelaircraft.org/plansall/g-plans.pdf

This is a .pdf file page listing all the plans starting 'G', you'll have to page down towards the bottom of the list to find Gull.....

Edit - Gulliver glider 48" span, designer Ted Strader, RCM Aug/64 (no plan listed), FM 10-11/64 (Flying Models, 10-11?)

Thanks, Ray. No picture so I can't confirm that it is the same plane, but for 2 dollars, I can risk it. heh heh heh. I appreciate the help. I guess I should finally get around to joining AMA. I don't fly at any established fields or inhabited areas so it hasn't been high on my list yet.

I might have one of these old planes. I upload some pics in my gallery.

I am now doubtful this is the plane you described since it also has an elevator in the tail
