How much power do a pair of GWS direct drive 300 can motors pull with 5x3 props?

I have a Castle Pixie 20 that I am hoping will do for this bird or the CargoTrans twin I also have.

Thanks!

how many volts?

if you use 3cell lipos you would be pushing the esc..but it would probably be ok

Wow. Old thread resurrection.

I'm hoping to use a 2 cell lipo. I started to assemble the Goony this evening. While I had the soldering station powered up for a couple of other small jobs it seemed like the right thing to do in getting the ESC soldered into the Y harness for this kit.

IIRC Vammy said he flew one with a 2 cell 2200mA pack. :)

Perhaps I should do a mini build thread?

I have 2 BP21's on mine...currently repainting it

I put cut down 8060SF props on it ~6" or so...flies on rails STRAIGHT UP :D

pulls about 20A w/the two motors

Heh. I'll settle for scale like flying thanks!

Mike,

The Pixie 20P will be fine. Just don't use over 2S, and program the Pixie for 5V LVC and hard cut. This info is from the major threads on RCG. I should be finishing mine tomorrow too. This bird glides nice power off.

Thanks Pat. One of my Vampower 2250 2S packs should fly it for a week or so! ;)

Even stock power is nice...these planes fly on rails, and can handle a decent amount of wind

Mike,

One other thing. Set the CG at around 70mm. The 50-55mm recommended by the manual is not correct.

Thanks Pat. Funny but somehow I am not surprised by this as this is a common problem with GWS birds it seems.

Well, finished mine up tonight, maiden tomorrow. No pics now as it was past 10pm when I finished. I will take some tomorrow at the field.

Oh, and Mike, set the throttle to fixed, not auto adjust. It is the last step in the programming of the Pixie 20P.

Success!

A successful maiden flight this morning in overcast skies with just a slight drizzle (so no pics yet). Took off with CG at 70mm, tail heavy! Got her back down, glued in the main gear that popped out, put a loose AA NiMH in the forward section of the battery tray (all I had for ballast) and took off again. Much better this time.

I'm thinking my CG is now closer to 60mm. Built the plane bone stock, except using a TP1320 2S instead of NiMHs. Oh well, at least she flies, and flies fast too! I had it only at 1/2 throttle the entire flight. Flew about 5 minutes and then landed. Would have flown more but the drizzle would not let up.

I'll post pics once the sun comes out again. All I did was leave it all silver, and used the airline decals included with the kit.

Good looking plane Pat! I really like the paint scheme. Well Done!

Thanks guys.

I wish I could take credit for the paint. It came prepainted silver. All I did was glue it together, slap on the decals, and I was done!

If I had gotten the one that was prepainted green, I would have done the C-47 scheme.

I just took some video of a GWS C-47 yesterday. It flies very well on stock motors and a 2 cell lipo.

I was gievn a C47 by a friend that found it too hard to fly. He crashed it on its maiden flight, I think he tried flying it too slow and stalled it. I have fittedmy own gear to it and it flys great with all stock running gear except for BIG problem - aileron flutter. Had it out today and did a dive and it looked like they were going to explode. Anyone else have this problem?

I would have to say what ever you would normal run for a esc on 1 you just be adding a 2nd esc of the same value to be on the safe cool side. but if your esc is over sized and you were running two small brushed motors then youd probly could go with 1 esc. i think bushless have to run on seperate esc's just because no two motor are the same and it would get confused.
