Using say a optic 6 on a sim is there a difference in time(usage) with the battery in the TX than when flying at the field?

Yes there is if you have a TX with a Module such as the Optic. Reason being is if your using the TX on a sim, you should always pull out the Module when using the radio with the antenna down to avoid over heating it. It you have a Spectra Module it will go out of tune and have to be sent back to Hitec. Not to mention the plane you will loose control of. The radio will draw less power without the module in giving you longer battery time with the Module removed.

I found that my GWS TX powers up with switch turned off when connected to the PC.

Rugar, what about a Hitec Laser 4? I pull the module out of my Optic 6, however, should i be doing the same with the little thing on the front of the Laser 4? (Is it called crystal?)
Thank You.

I'm not 100& sure, but I would think you would be OK to leave the crystal installed. I started with a Hitec Flash 5 which is a non Module Radio like your Lazer 4, and used it many hours on sims without a problem. I'm not sure what Hitec recommends. I do know that they say to pull the Module out of the Optic 6 and the Eclipse 7.
Hopefully someone will chime in to give you a more definite answer.

Starting from fully charged lets say a stock 600ma roughly how long are people getting out of there batteries on a sim? the reason i'm asking is iv'e got a new DX6 TX and i intended to use my old optic 6 TX on sims, soon as i get my a new computer that is and i was wondering if another battery or so would be a good idea.

Yes that is the crystal.
Whether you need to take it out or not depends on how your interface cable is wired.
If the Tx switches itself on when you plug the cable in you're o.k.
If you have to switch the Tx on then you should remove the crystal. Otherwise it will still be transmitting and you'll not only have low battery life you also run the risk of damaging the Tx if you run it for too long with the antenna down :(.
