If you're not too clear on what pitch, roll and yaw mean see also

Thanks "slipstick"
the link was great help .
and yes i'm very clear on roll ,pitch and yaw .as i flew hangliders for 10 years when i was a bit younger ,but now a little to old to run with 80 lbs and 42 feet of wing span , so i thought i would give a couple feet of wing span a toss and see if that to is a "GRIN" .
thanks for all the help.

the older i get the better i use to be "sigh"

I fly mode 1 and basically it is,

rudder/elevator on left stick and aileron/throttle on right stick

Mode 2 = throttle/ rudder on left stick and aileron/elevator on right stick

It's a matter of personal preference which is best and how you learned.

I've heard that it's a geographical thing too. Here it the US mode 2 is mainly used whereas in Europe mode 1 is more popular.

That is true, although when I learned to fly propo in the 60's my club was mabe 95% mode one and to day is probably 98% mode 2 due to the fact that only mode 2 radios are stocked by the LHS's and mode 1 is special order
Also before the advent of computer radios you could simply change it yourself

Hey Rodger,
Most computer radios are user switchable, I could be mistaken but the Spektrum DX 6 is one that is not, but is based on a very entry level JR Tx, even my old Airtronics Infinity 660 from 10 years ago has the option in setup:cool:

I have four JR puter radios, 421, 642, 652, and 662 None are user changeable between mode 1 or 2. Oh sure the spring and rachet can be moved but the channel order and mix's are wrong.

I had to order the 642 and 662 special for mode 1

If you know a way to change the 652 from mode 2 to mode 1, I'd be glad to hear it.

The Optic 6 is programmable for either Mode 1 or Mode 2.

Hi Rodger,
I'm not a JR guy, I was not aware that so many of their models lacked this feature:o

I fly Mode 2, but I think Rolling Harriers are easier to do with Mode 1. I've seen videos of a mode 1 pilot simply twirling his left stick around to get the rolls, whereas with Mode2 it is a somewhat clumsy coordinated wagging of the left and right sticks.

Are there any pilots in the US using Mode 1 because some manouvres are simply easier in that mode?

Marketsage,
I'm a mode 2 guy, when I started I didn't even know about mode 1:o
It seems that the mode 1 guys like not getting unwanted pitch inputs when using aileron and visa versa, even though all full scale acro pilots fly with pitch and roll on the same stick, but then there is a lot more "feel" and load on that stick:D
There sure are mode 1 flyers in the US, but not as many as flying mode 2, but it is not uncommon to start a family feud when the topic comes up as to which is "better" ,whats best is what works for you:cool:

IN THE 60's and 70's my club was almost all mode 1 and now in the twenty first century it is mostly mode 2. It depends on who trained you to fly and now who is available to train you.
A few can fly both, I'm not one of them.
Another factor is what the LHS stocks and what is available from the distributer.
You are correct about the unwanted pitch inputs and that is the primary reason most pattern competetors preferred mode one. How it is now I don't know.
