View Full Version : Prop Saver and shaft question

OK, I am tired of bending prop shafts almost every time I dork a plane into terra firma. So I was looking at prop savers at my LHS. Just how short of a propshaft can I get away with here? The shaft on my Slow Stick is pretty ugly! :o

Are you using a GWS gear box on that? What you can do to measure the distance of shaft needed is this (ths is what we do pn our combat planes that hit the Earth alot!)
Put the nut on the shaft
put on the washer
cut a popsicle stick into 3/4 piecs and drill a hole in the middle
Slide the popsicle stick on
slide another washeron
slide another nut on. now you know how much shaft you need for the "prop saver hardware". I would leave about 1/4" of shaft past the last nut and saw the rest off! And instead of rubber bands, I use o-rings from the local HArware store, in the plumbing department!)
I hope that helps!
