Is it ok to store planes in a cold garage for the winter?

No problem. Remove the batteries and take them inside for safe keeping.

Actually, the cold garage is just fine for batteries too. I would recommend removing LiPolys from the planes, of course, and even storing them in a large pyrex dish with a pyrex cover, but the cold actually helps preserve the batteries.
