Nieuport-28 EP 40" ARF
 

Hi friends
I picked up a Nieuport-28 EP 40" ARF at the Pomona RCX show and was wondering if anyone else has one of these? I love the overall quality of this model and the covering is very well done. I'm installing the motor 1/2" forward from the recommended stop to help with the CG, it will make the nose a little longer but I figure a small price to pay if it helps. I thought as I build the model the weight would start to build up but that really hasn't been the case, I have a couple of foamys of about the same size that are heavier. About another week of building.

I just picked up one of these Great looking planes can't wait to get it together. They look very nice in my opinion. Let me know all your secrets and how she flys LOL.

I have been searching the internet for a video of one flying but no such luck.

Yes, a great little model of one of my favorites! I'd be real interest in the building process and a review of such.

I have to say my opinion of ARFs as of late are many of them are C.R.A.P!

First thing you do with an ARF is change the color scheme so it does not look like all the others. Here is my foam ARF. I use pull-pull controls and I think it saves weight at the tail. I did not have to add any weight to balance.

So, it's settled, this is the Maxford N-28? Like I said, I'd like to hear details of how well the airplane goes together. I'm getting a little gun shy of ARFs lately.

Cool looking plane if you can figure a way to kill some of that shine! Wow, break out the sunglasses! Looks like they did a great job getting the outline and proportions right. Please let us know how she flies. J.

If the shine bothers you, what about the fact it's Rickenbacker's N6159 with a cowling that's sorta Campbell's and wheel covers that Rick never had.

I think the camo pattern is pretty close, along with the colors. You could scour the surface with a Scotch Brite; or, shoot some Dull coat on it to dull the shine and it would look better. The size sort of fits with Great Planes series of small WW1 airplanes that must be fairly popular as they have 6 or so offering at this time.

I like it! I can easily get past the shine!

The main item I had to watch with this model was it's VERY short moment ahead of the main wheels ... and it's awful tendency to ground-loop at slightest whim. It needed careful throttle at start of take-off and care with rudder. The Rudder is very powerful on it..... just a tad too much and wing-tip hits ground, around she goes. She has incredible 'prop-authority'... that is the prop is large and throttle needs to be used a lot in manouevres etc.

Just for info ... When researching my N28 for supporting docs for the Comp. - I cam across an article in a book about the Squadron.

The Nieuport was basically shunned by the French Pilots after a number of horrific accidents where engines caught fire in flight and other occasions where bottom wings shredded. It was handed over to US pilots who came over to help fight in Europe. How true this is I don't know.....
