Parkzone Spitfire Mk IX

I really need help!???? Just pulled the trigger on the new PZ Spitfire Mk IX. I am hoping it'll come in time for the up-coming long weekend. Not like I really need another plane...really, I don't...really...Damn PZ! Is it me or is PZ marketing and supply chain department time this thing to match payday and long weekend? Anyway, mines on order and hoping and wishing I can play with this coming weekend. Interested if others jumped in head first like this addict and what's your initial hands on experience with this.

You will probably one of the first to fly this one. Looks like a good airplane. but be wary of tip stalls. Most Spits have that tendency, but maybe PZ has figured out a way to overcome it.

MY LHS usually gets PZ shipments on Thursdays - will be interesting to see if they get some of these. I imagine I will get one, but the 109 is suppposed to be in Thursday so i will probably get that in the air first.

I will be very interested in how you like the Spit.

Good luck with the 109, mine can be a handful

wolfewinde 08-31-2011 02:08 PM

Thanks, Heli

In my experience, Spitfires and ME-109's are usually a handful - at least the ones I have flown were. It is going to be interesting to start seeing the flight reviews on this new Spit.

Just talked to my LHS and they think they will be getting some Spits tomorrow - hard to resist - I really like Spits

The hardest part of M-109 is the unique takeoff. Based on the picture and diameter of the landing gears of the Spitfire, I think the characteristics will carry over.

I think I'll add retractable gears once she's trimmed and stable like my M-109.

Well I just ordered the Spit replacement airframe - no electronics or motor- so pretty much an ARF kit. I already have the electronics anyway, might as well use them.

I suspect you are right, Reef. Both of these planes have a narrow wheel base, so easy to tip over on take-offs

the ground handling can be difficult, but the spit is a much better flyer.

always loved the spit, but you also see that FW-190 being released by hobby zone...
OHH battle of britain time ...

It will be interesting to see what the tip stall characteristics are on the New Spit.

gosh...darn it. Looks like mine won't arrive until mid-week next week. Good thing I have a back-up plan for the long weekend (maiden flight of the e-flite carbon-z::o)

wolfewinde 09-03-2011 12:47 AM

Nice back up plan, Reef. That Z flies really well from what I have seen.

Saw the new Spit up at LHS yesterday. Looks very nice but kept the card in my pocket:D
Looking forward to the flight reports

Back-up was executed flawlessly. Maiden flight and two battery packs later - she's now trimmed and ready for her next flight. I took a few shoots during and afterward.

wolfewinde 09-04-2011 03:27 PM

Grats on the maiden, Reef.

thx

As for the Spitfire, I guess it's good the plane hasn't arrive it b/c the winds are cray right now (20+mph all labor day weekend long). Can't wait until next weekend so I can experience what others are already flying this weekend. All reports seems to indicate another good plane.

wolfewinde 09-12-2011 03:23 AM

You ever get your Spit in the air, Reef?

Mine has gotten off to a rough start. No crashes, but one incident with a bad servo, then a bad ESC, then a nose over on landing that broke one of the guns off.

She is ready to go again - 3 1/2 flights so far - she seems to fly pretty well when everything is working.

yep. i have been busy...flying my new spitfire :D the past week. Seems like you're enjoying yours too except for the few minor issues. had about 15 flights or so. so far so good. I went lazy and got the BNF to save time and hassle. good addition to the fleet. no complaint here. If I had one it would be regarding visibility. Due to the plane's color, she can be hard see in certain lighting condition during both daylight and evening. little concern with a potential heat issue long term but everyone in rcgroups doesn't seem to concern and was told HZ even responded as a non-issue I am told.

It seems I've had more activities on RCgroups than here so i haven't been updating or commenting as much. I believe I had also commented my maiden flight there too and forgot about wattflyer.

wolfewinde 09-12-2011 04:11 PM

I put yelow tape on the underside of the wingtips and a yellow stripe next to the guns - visibility/orientation was a problem for me too.

Switched out the ESC and cut the guns off shorter. Had a good test flight this morning - I think she is good to go now except I think she runs hot. I am going to dremel an air intake on the underside of the cowell.
