T28 Durafly TROJAN--Anyone know where the CG is located ?
 
Hi all.

I am about to fly my T28 Trojan durafly model that I got from HK (usa).

Anyone know where the CG is located ?

On all the reports on the T28 Durafly TROJAN, everyone is saying that the CG is way off, to be on the safe side, set the CG at 25% of the wing cord, 1/4 of the way back from the front leading edge, 25% back is a very very safe place to start from, and move the CG back if you need to a little at a time untill you find the sweet spot, every review i have read, says that the MFG recomended CG is Tail Heavy, hope that helps, Chellie

Recently bought a durafly edge 540. Put it together and adjusted to get cg correct as per instructions. First flight was almost uncontrollable. Turns out it flies great with cg half inch forward of instructions position. This aircraft is 32 inch wingspan and runs on a 4s set up so is ballistic. Scary stuff with all that power and a very rearward cg.

I learned the hard way :<: ARF planes CG info is almost always Wrong, set the planes CG to be a tad nose heavy on all Maiden Flights and adjust from there, a plane with a Tail heavy CG will fly only once :eek: and a Plane with a nose heavy CG will fly, but not great :D LOL ,Take care and have fun, Chellie

I will do so as u adviced . I also found this CG pic for the T28 TROJAN.
Need to see if this is 25% from leading edge going back....says it is 2-5/8 inch behing LE.

2 questions :
You always measure from LE that is touching the plane's body right?

After that you mark that with a X and let the wing rest on your finger tip on each side and it should be a lil' nose heavy correct?
If so ...does it matter if I move the finger width wise along the wing few inches from the plane body?

The manual says 72 mm = 2.83465 inches = close to 2 and 7/8s.

2 and 5/8ths = 2.625 inches = close to 67 mm

Anyone flying one of these? If yes, what are you using?

edit: after thinking about it 5 mil forward might be a good place to start.

Guys ,
Give me your input. I hung plane upside down on my CG DIY checker.

Actual CG, with nose bit down is between manual's suggested point and 25% (from front chord edge of wing)....Actual cg (denoted by A in pic) is more close to manual's suggested point though. Plane nose pointed to right in pic.
Is this ok? For maiden?

It looks like a good place to start. I usually maiden with a slightly forward CG then once trimmed out I invert the model in flight and the amount of down elevator needed to fly straight and level tells me if the CG is right. I like a rearward CG on my models so they fly inverted with as little as possible down elevator needed. This makes them a bit twitchy but control response is immediate how I like it.

Thanks guys. There is a small rectangular slot where the esc cable comes out to esc. I can add weights in this slot.
But I need to make sure it sticks to thermocol sides.

What can I add as weights, that can stick using super glue?
Anything I can buy from art and craft store or HD?

I bought a durafly t28 Trojan this week and flew it today. I put the cg where it said in the manual and after a test flight moved it back about 10mm and she flies superbly.So 182mm rear of wing leading edge is good.

I use saltwater fishing sinkers, and rubber cement. And I try to put it as far forward, and as close to dead center as I can. On my P47 (FMS 750MM) the weight is glued directly under the motor, and smack-dab in the middle, and it flies beautiful-like. C.G. is 55MM from leading edge on mine, and a tad nose-heavy with the battery in. LOVE this plane...
