I am going to build my first electric. I want to use the equavalent of a .60 nitro. How do I know what motor mount, ESC, motor, battery, what do i use to connect the prop to the motor shaft, spinner? How do I find this info?

Oh so many variables there! Is this a .60 cub or a .60 Pylon racer???

The easy choice is to get something like the E-flite power 60 or equivalent and figure the rest out from there.

This is a good tool for playing with battery/prop/motor combos. It will give you thrust, amp draw, watts etc.

Also, if you browse the conversion forums (glow to electric), you can see what components are being used for the type of plane you have in mind and various approaches for installing them.

with this 60 size 580KV motor i would use a 5 or 6 cell lipo. 4500 to 5000mah and 20C Rated, hobby kings turnigy lipo is one of the better values in price, they have a USA Warehouse if your in the states.

WOW, thanks for thr response. Actually it's an old F-15 great planes balsa kit. I have no idea of weight. Does motor come with a way to afix the prop to it?

You will need to get a Wattmeter to check the final AMP and Watt Draw, this is a must to protect your investment and so you dont burn anything up, the 12x9 apc prop should be OK on the Amp draw, as this motor can use a 14x7 prop on 6 cell, but you need to check it to be on the safe side,

I've electrified a number of models in this size. You need a quality motor around 1200 Watts or so. A number of them are available, I happen to like the Hacker series. I've got three Hacker A50 motors, the two A50-12S motors have about the same horsepower and performance as a quality four stroke 70 size glow engine. (Also have one A30, two A40's, and two A60's) It's not to hard to electrify a glow type model, and have it outperform the same model with glow power. The advantage glow has is longer flight times. My flights are on the order of 6 or 7 minutes, with a 3 minute reserve for go arounds, someone on the field and so on.

IMHO, with models of this size and power ratings, its not a good idea to go cheap. As indicated, the Hacker A50 series of motors, the Castle Creations ICE series of ESC's are all top quality. As for mounting the prop to the motor, the Hacker series of motors include all firewall mounting hardware, and appropriate prop adapters, ready to go.

One very nice combination is the Hanger 9 Kantana model with 59 inch wingspan, and the Hacker A50-12S motor, and 16X8 APC-E (Electric) prop. This power system hauls that 8 pound model off the ground in about 30 feet, and will fly straight up out of sight.

You might have noticed the large diameter props, that's typical for a high power brushless motor. My models run the A123 battery packs. With a 6S2P (6 series 2 parallel) 4600 Mah battery pack, the motor turns that 16X8 prop at 7700 RPM, putting out 11.5 pounds of thrust. The motor is pulling about 65 Amps, and about 1200 Watts. That 1200 watts represents about 1.6 horsepower.

Hi :ws: I Agree with Denny, if you have the Big Bucks, Go with Hacker Motors and Castle Creation ESC, They are the Best of the Best, But for the Rest of us Poor Folks ;-) the Motors that Heads Up Rc Sells are good enough for Sport Flying and will get the Job Done, I just wish i could afford Hacker Motors :{ Take care and Have Fun, Chellie :D

Its the same paper on both sides so when one side starts to get beat up you can flip it over . I bought two 8 years ago and iam still using them today. For building smaller planes you could just but one and cut it in half for a 16 x 48 or 16x 8ft . joe
