Are there any which are easier on the wallet than the big ones that are for sale out there?

Also, is the DX6i compatible with any of them?

With some help from others here, I found the low-dollar sims with adapters for Spektrum on E-bay for real cheap. I use the adapter with my 6i no problem. The one I found came with something like 'Dynam simulator' on a little disk, but I just use R/C Desk Pilot and FMS. On E-Bay, just search for USB RC simulator JR, since JR and Spektrum are compatible.

Cool thanks for the info! I downloaded the "Free version" of clearview, but I guess on that version you cannot add the user created airplanes. It was cool that you could fly with the keyboard though.

I also downloaded rcdeskpilot and all the PZ planes. The only thing is you apparently cannot fly with the keyboard so I will be looking for a cord adapter for my DX6i.

Seems as though the full version of clearview is like 40 bucks. Hopefully I can find an adapter cord cheaper than that and just run desk pilot.

Yeah, that looks like the one I got. With stuff this cheap, you never know, but at $5, what can you expect?

I looked at Clearview, but my current computer can't handle it. I need a computer upgrade, then I'm going back to RealFlight, to be honest. I like all the view options, and it just feels more (If you'll pardon the expression) real.

It looks o.k. but the details say it has a 2.5mm connector. It should be 3.5mm if it's going to work with JR/Spektrum....so either it's just typed wrong or it needs another adaptor which isn't supplied.

Shame Realflight is over $200 or id get it. I have played it at the hobby sho and enjoy it.

I could go for the $15 dynam sim and use that usb controller with the other apps, but id prefer to use my own radio.

I used to use FMS Flying Model Simulator. It is free to down load and you can find 100's of planes by making a search for FMS planes.

You need an adapter to hook your transmitter to the USB port, I found mine on Ebay for less than $ 5

Clearview is a nice program its $40 and works pretty good. There are also a quite a few planes you can download and put in the sim.

Check the classifieds on RC GROUPS for used Realflight sims I got a version 5.5 used for $85, works perfect and comes with the controller and can be used with your transmitter if you like

What search term should I use on eBay? Just Jr/spektrum adapter?

Try "USB simulator cable". That gets me 50+ offers, most of which mention JR.

RC Planemaster ... comes complete with USB connected Tx ..... mine cost just over 20 Pounds UK ... ( about $30 all in ) on ebay ...

Some say it does not run on Win 7 ... well it does run on 32bit Win 7 (Starter) .... I have it on my machine right here.

Plenty of sellers on Ebay offer it ...

FMS - that's old hat now and there's far better out there ...

Do yourself a favor and get a good simulator! The first crash you avoid by practizing in the simulator will make it pay for itself!

ClearView is a decent simulator for beginners, but a lot of the models are "dumbed down" and fly a lot easier than they would in real life. But it will do for learning basic maneuvers. $40 for the software is not bad. Then you can get one of those "mock transmitters" for about $20 on eBay.

Yes, you'll be down $60, but you'll end up a better pilot and you'll crash fewer planes. Ask me how I know... :)

Man, don't mess around with the el=cheapo sims--- get a Realflight and be done with it!

Yes but you can get an infinite number of (free) RCDeskPilots or FMSs for the (expensive) price of one RealFlight.

If you start on a free sim and learn the basics and then decide it's worth spending loads on a "better" sim it's not cost you any more. And if instead you decide the free sim is all you need you've saved enough to buy another model or two instead ;).

Forgive me taking offence at this ..... but I will defend RC Planemaster against such ridiculous rubbish !

I agree that FMS is the pits and not worth installation ... but ~$30 for RC Planemaster is a good investment and is a very good sim with all the control trimming / weather / wind etc. that you need. The Graphics may not be super-duper Hollywood graphics - but that is not the point. The point is that the model in the sim react and fly like the real model ... RC Planemaster DOES THAT and for a lot less cost than Phoenix / Realflight etc.
Second it comes with the same USB controller TX that Dynam and others have - just a different sticky label on front.

I have to admit that I get a bit tired of reading advice that connects cost with 'quality' ............ that may have been true years ago - but not now.

I've been RC'g for more years than I care to remember .......... in fact before Proportional radio became the norm ... and I fly RC Planemaster when weathers bad .. I want to practice manoeuvre ... keep hands in ... etc.

I just picked one up and I'm switching from Phoenix to RF because I'm into 3D and RF is a tad more 3D friendly.

I'm probably selling my Phoenix if someone is interested...
