Aircraft of the Shuttleworth Collection
Heres a 60 minute video well worth watching of the old planes flying. Some of the oldest look pretty scary to go up in.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. http://youtu.be/bV7nFXhL8QY |
Yep, the collection is housed at Old Warden airfield in Bedfordshire. They run model flying days regularly so I've flown my models on the safe airstrip you see in the video. It's a fantastic place and the people are great too. last time i was there i got a tour 'behind the scenes' in the workshops where they restore the planes.
If you are ever in that area it's worth a visit, there are also a number of other aircraft museums in the area that are 'must see' if you love airplanes. |
We have a place up in New York that has a fine aerodrome museum and some flying ones also. I have been up once with the wife we want to go up again this summer to enjoy it again. Here's a link to a thread that has pictures from Old Rhinebeck.

If you have any interst in aircraft, Shuttleworth is an incredible place (not to shun Rhniebeck at all!). Biggleswade is friendly, and there is another sight to be seen there as well: Swiss Gardens, right next door. there were big surprises in both places. If I were a younger man, I would move there and volunteer at both facilities!

Yes if I ever travel over there I would love to stop in and take in the place. The planes and field look to be top notch and welled cared for.
For now I will get back up to Old Rhinebeck with the wife again this summer to see what they have restored. |
