I have a ICE-MAN BL-3GRC Gyro currently installed in an old T-28 for testing. Everyrthing seems to operate correctly, but I have a question. With every thing connected and the Gyro has stabilized. If I pick up my airplane and pitch up, I do see a corresponding down elevator, but it does not remain giving a down signal and returns to neutral. Is this the way it should work? I thought the down signal would remain until the airplane resumed a neutral attitude.
Sounds like the gyro is in rate mode. Its trying to damp the rate of change rather than lock on to a direction.
This is fine it will act to prevent uncommanded changes of direction.
Heading hold would hold the control surface deflection until the plane returns to the direction last commanded.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both...
If the settings are wrong it can be very difficult to control the aircraft. Ensure you have a switch to turn the gyro off.
Thanks for the info. I do have a switch to turn off the gyro just in case.
