Motor selection or can i use???
Hello my question is . I have a Ripmax Reno racer ARF looks to be a fairly light plane uses ale,ele and throttle only kit says speed 400 6v Graupner or litespeed 400. All the threads I found were built on nmih batts , my question is can I use the motor I have it is a 2408 21t 3a towerpro says 113 watts output in the specs I could find on it how might it fly any help would be appreciated thanks motorhead
Compare the specs of your motor, especially watts and kV with:
You'll find your motor isn't big enough.
this thread talks a lot about the plane.
my guess, a sport/400 motor and a 1300mah 3 cell would probably be about right
the motor you have now should fly the plane, but I think it will be undrpowered.
id shoot for at least 200watts where the kit says ready to fly weight will be about 21oz. I personally might even try a 450 sized motor. your going to have to add weight to offset the weight of the brushed 6v motor and nicads the plane was designed for.
To be honest ........... I look at prop size required / recc'd .... then size motor according.
Most older electrics were underpowered ... so using same prop size but on a brushless will often give an increase in performance ...
No more gearbox ... no more marginal flight .... longer flight times especially if matched to LiPo ...
My ME109 changed to brushless was like a new machine !
If you can fit a 2200mah lipo in the plane, that would be better yet, my little reno racer could only fit a 1800mah lipo
