1/10th Scale DH Mosquito spinners
Does anyone know where i can get hold of some spinners to suit a 1/10th DH Mosquito. I've looked all over and the only ones i can find are either too pointy or don't have the right dome shape. I'm not skilled enough to make my own.
I did find some moulded plastic ones from Traplet but i'm not sure how i'd go about making the back plate.
Cheers guys, UK shops would be appreciated.
Difficult to find shapes/sizes of spinners generally end up with people making their own.
2 discs of aircraft plywood (1/8 inch cone support/bolt plate and 1/4 inch backplate) screwed together and center drilled, Insert a bolt with the head cut off in center, washers and nuts to hold in place and tighten it well and then glue on a block of styro.
Chuck the bolt in a drill press or a drill that is firmly clamped to a table or workbench.
Start turning SLOWLY and cut off the major excess. increase speed as the form comes into balance. Use sandpaper for final shaping.
Remove from drill press and remove the bolt and screws.
You can now cut the front plywood and foam for the prop.
Reassemble with 3 layers of wax paper between the ply layers.
Fill with drywall spackle or hobbico lightweight filler and then 2 coats water based poly
You can now fiberglass and finsh the spinner.
When it is finished re-balance the spinner by drilling in the backplate and ply still attached to the cone.
I modified this technique for making the inlet ring of my EDF nacelle.
In the future I expect people will use 3D printers to make the odd shape spinners.
some people have been 3d printing spinners for years. if you can draw it in cad, places like shapeways will print it for you. not cheap though.
Motionrc or rc-castle carries the Breeding mosquito spinners. They might be your best bet.
