This is the place for unusual planes, right?

LOL!! Thats one of the coolest odd-ball models Ive seen. Ive built a few off-the-wall models, but nothing that cool. I love it!

xmech2k 01-02-2014 04:38 AM

Wow! If that ain't photoshopped, that dude's got building skilz!

fhhuber 01-02-2014 05:10 AM

Not photo-shopped. I might even have the plans for it in an old magazine from the mid 1930's

Don Sims 01-02-2014 10:41 AM

Now that is a classic plane! You need to build it and enter in the latest scratch build contest!! :D

Actually I saw something (I believe it may have been in RCG) for building odd shaped wings like that. You take a block of foam at least as thick as the chord of the wing, cut it in the profile you want and build the wing on that profile.

What does a gull-wing buy you on a high-wing?

I can see getting the wings away from the CG might aid resistance to something that makes the plane want to roll through the reduction of mass centralization, is that a large effect?

Its an old Free Flight design. They often went to extremes to ensure stability. No way to correct the way it flies after you launch. It either works or you have to do a lot of work to put it back together.

Anybody remember Hardy Krüger's speech in Flight of the Phoenix? :D

Which version?
The original's speech is better than the remake.

Very nice plane. This brought back memories of that Brazilian builder that died a year or two ago that built planes that had organic looks to them.
Nice job.

I would like a copy of the plan if someone has it.

I'll look through the ancient magazines and see if I can find it.

Plenty with the same (or very similar) fuselage.

That recurved wing is a bit unusual but I could replicate the design if I don't find an original set of plans with that feature. I know I have seen it before.

andy120 01-12-2014 06:52 AM

I couldnt find it on the Ausey site with 30's plans. Been right thru outerzone & most of rcg old time.

Could it be a Frank Ziac design?
