Airline travel with RC planes

I'm planning on taking my first vacation in years this summer. I'll be going to the Florida gulf coast and really want to take a plane with me.

I haven't found any recent threads that address this. Any tips, hints, warnings or advice welcome. I'm worried about size restrictions and LiPo batteries, in particular.

This guy (32" wingspan) is my first choice:

main thing to deal with is the LiPos. Ensure they are properly packed and that you don't have a total greater than what is allowed. (I forgot where to look up the max amount you can carry on)

you can pack a ton of batteries in checked baggage. pack it well and don't worry about it. you cannot carry much on your carry luggage. great thread here.

Or you could make sure your plane is fully charged (might even want to up the battery size a bit) and be sure to get a good window seat and try to keep your model in sight.

In a way, I'm more worried about the size and shape of the travel box for my plane(s) and etc.

Years ago I visited my buddy in AK and wanted to take a plane with me too. I was pretty new and had a T-28 Parkzone Foamy. I built a wooden box that allow the fuse with the wing separated to fit inside. I then simply checked it as baggage. Everything turned out just fine. As I recall there was no extra charge but things may have changed now. We had a blast flying.

Thanks. I'm probably over-thinking things.
