Motor/ESC/Lipo combo for Sig Kadet Senior
Picked up a well used older Sig Kadet Senior, Flying Weight: 6 - 6.5 lbs, and looking for an inexpensive power system motor/esc/ lipo/prop, to get it up in the air.
Sig recomends a 500 watt BRUSHLESS OUTRUNNER MOTOR and lists a number of setups that will work in their manual but list their favorite as "a Himax 5018-530 (530 KV) brushless motor, 75 Amp ESC, 5S 5000 Mah lipo, and an APC 12x8E prop giving good performance and 8-10 minute flights." On the options they also list similar to an Eflite Power 32 (770 KV probably best flow on 4S) and and Eflite Power 46 (probably best flow on 5S). I think the airplane would fly fine on all of those. Turnigy is fine. Cheaper is better. Please give me your price shipped. Can PayPal.
Tacon 25 and Dynam/Detrum 40 amp esc on 4S 3000 (or higher capacity) will do great for general flying. I have this combo in a 40 size electric Pattern model.
Go to the Tacon 40 and a 60 amp ESC for heavy lifting and towing small sailplanes.
This will give the effective power of .60 glow and the Kadet Sr (with landing gear upgrade) can fly fine at 18 lb take-off weight on a weak .60
You can add even more power but there's not much point.
You might as well just go ahead and buy new... You'll have a warranty and you won't save much getting used.
Thanks for the advice. I see Dynam sells combo packs. For example $41 for Dynam Motor ESC Combo BM3715A-KV900+40A ESC for RC Planes. Is that combo any good?
I've been getting god results from the motor/esc combos included in newer Dynam ARF/RTF models. Not sure which motors are in them, but that might be one of them.
Here is a lot of reading info on electrifying this size model. Might be something useful for you. :tc: As others in this thread have indicated, buy new if you can. Prices on a lot of those motors and ESC's have really dropped since brushless motors became popular about 10 years ago.

I appreciate the advice and understand the value of buying new. I bought the Kadet Sr for $20 so I have nothing in it really. I thought someone might have an appropriate package hanging around for short money I could throw in. Either way it will be fun. I think.
Hi :ws: here is a nice dependable motor and Esc power system that wont set you back to much :D you will need to buy a UBEC as the ESC does not have a built in bec.

you can use a 4 cell for a little less power at about 600 Watts of power
That looks to be a very nice combination for the price. Grayson has a 5 Amp BEC version available for another $20. Or just buy the Castle Creations 10 Amp uBEC or similar product.
