FMS Ask23

I just bought a FMS Ask 23 and flew it a couple of times and have had a couple of hair raising moments. The first thing that happened was when giving a little up elev it snaps violently. I tried to add nose weight to desensitize it a bit. Also when I come in for a landing I have to be VERY CAREFUL on the controls as it will stall and snap again. I have about 3 flights and the last was not so good as it snapped and took out the nose. Just wondering of I have a junk plane or is it characteristic of long narrow wings. I have other gliders and they all fly good. It is a scale plane so I'm kinda leaning toward that is how a scale thin wing reacts. Any thoughts.????

you need to keep the speed up on that glider when landing and when turning, it does not like to be flown slow. the wing does not have any dihedral that helps to stabilize other gliders.

Yea , the more I've been reading about the model and the full scale plane it is that way too. I am thing of adding flaps to get a slight reflex as well as full deflection. I have a Tactic TTX650 which I can set up 2 different flap parameters , on one 3 position switch have 10-15 deg and 30 deg and on another 3 position switch have 20 and 60 deg. That way I can play with the best setting for the need. I am also going to dial down the elev. so it doesn't have too much throw. I noticed it is twisting the stab slightly at full deflection which maybe part of the problem too. At the stock balance point it was almost out of control. I have since re-balanced it fwd and it is alot better. I don't fly it much as it is kind of a pain to field assemble. I should have bought the Fox instead. Oh well

Every ARF and kit plane I have built and Flown, the MFG CG point is always way off, the planes are always tail heavy, maybe they do that so you will crash and have to buy another plane from them :D :D :D

Balance your glider at 25% back from the front leading edge, fly it and readjust if needed, most of the time, 25% will be right on the Money :ws: back off your throws if any twist / binding shows up with full deflection, You have a nice glider, you have to get to know it ;) Take care and have fun, Chellie
