Electric conversion / GP Cherokee
 
Picking up a used Cherokee tomorrow for $75.00. Now for the electric conversion. This is my Buddy's plane and it is gas with air retracts and of course, the servos. So , I guess it would now be a Piper Archer. LOL

I'm looking at 4 different electric 46 size motors: Tacon, Exceed, SK3, and Powerup(familiar with) but not sure which one. Any thoughts? . All in the 600-700kv 1000W range Probably go with a 70-80 amp esc. Will change out the air retracts to servoless metal trunnion electrics with oleo struts. Will have to see what's he's done there with the openings. Will need a new GP cowl .

By the time I'm done, it will be a ~ $300 airplane. No way around it.

Appreciate expert advice !

Hi Hawk :ws: whats the W/S on the plane and what is the Estimated AUW, That will help a lot to get a nice power system for it, here are a few suggestions below. I Know that Fireman Bill uses these Grayson motors on his builds and is happy with them.

I've also got this motor, looks to be a very decent motor at a very good price. Have not flown it yet, not with all the snow we got this winter.

This motor turns an APC-E 13X6.5 Prop at 8500 RPM, while pulling 40 Amps at 14 Volts out of my 5S A123 battery pack.

Update:
This model with the Hyperion motor was flown last week with four very successful flights. That motor and it 5S1P A123 pack will haul that 57 ounce model straight up, out of sight.

I have the Power Up 46 on a Four Star 40.Great motor,more power than I need.

Good options. I'm most familiar with the Power up but am open to other combos. Want an arming switch on the esc cause the canopy removal is a bit of pita. Two side screws hold it on. Maybe go with magnets.

Depending on the size of your model, this works out very well for models perhaps 4 foot wingspan and larger.
