Motor / Prop / LiPo / ESC combos ?
 
I think it might be interesting for many looking at Pushers - to know combo results ... so reasonable options can be picked for a model.

I've used low to very high KV motors ... amps draw from 10 ... to over 100A .... watts from 150 to over 1.2KW .....

Result is - I'm still fumbling around trying to decide what to use on next etc.

Interesting results come out as well ... the Funfighter 1950kv motor can give you better speed / performance than a 2500kv on same prop ... How ? Better amp / volt management ...

I'm interested if people can post up their combos ....

a) Motor name / size / kv
b) Prop
c) ESC
d) LiPo
and any speed / performance data ? as well as what size / weight model.

This will greatly help those who are looking to get started in this format. As well as build a database useful to all of us.

Once I get home - I will get my Wattmeter and RPM counter out - start testing my combos ....

Hopefully I can make up a table for those interested to have it ...

Essentially... you will be replicating motocalc.

man i total agree with this. But not just for pushers, for a new person coming in it would be of great help to get them started. and that moto calc B/S thingy its ok if you got a teacher for a freind. BUT THATS ABOUT IT... some simple motor prop,esc, bat combos would greatly help a newbe... lots of people can say this "N" that and thats fine for all you guys "N" gals that have the brains for this . for for us bottom feeders its a real problem finding good info....
ive seached untill i just gave up and said H---ll with it all going back to nitro at least its easy to fly... ...
BUT I REALLY THINK people just dont want anybody coming into this HOBBY......... thats my 2 cents any who... ive got some answers here and i really thank all who have helped (i needed it) with my electrical isues...
but if there was a place that had all this stuff already figgered out for us then we could buy & fly and learn as we go after that.....
and again I THANK ALL Who have helped me.......ok im done:)

The big problem I see is what the motors actually are, rather then the manufactured specs. all too often people order one motor and get a completely different one, and never know the difference till they get a watt meter.

I have been making a similar chart with my motors. I really need to get a fish scale so I can measure thrust without flying the plane.

yup my motor supposed to this much but its not . according to the watt meter.. anyway

Here is a decent scale at a decent price. I bought mine at Harbor Freight, but they don't seem to carry it any more. These scales use what is called "Load Cells" for electronic measuring. Mine is quite accurate.

This one looks to be identical to the unit I have, only it is orange, rather than black.

Here is one of my Favourite Power systems for a pusher or tractor park Flyer, and its Powerful and cheap Like me :D I learned about this power system from Kosh and Barry likes to use them on his multi motor planes, They work Great, here it is, Its a Micro 1800 kv motor with a 7x6 apc prop and a 25 -30 amp ESC with a 3 cell lipo of at least 1500 mah and 25C, These motors will pull 20+ amps and 200 Watts all day long and love it, the motor has thick motor windings, I have not burned out one of these motor yet, and I am not Kind to them :D Dont let its small size fool you, Here is Kosh with this motor on a Park flier, with a 7x6 apc prop, 3 cell lipo 25 to 30 amp ESC, Take care and have fun, Chellie

PS epoxy the wires that come out of the motor to the windings and epoxy the motor to the motor mount, dont get any epoxy on the rear bearing, that helps to keep the motor wires from vibrating and breaking at the motor and it helps to keep the motor from turning in the motor mount preventing the wires from pulling and breaking. making this motor almost bullet proof. cut the long motor shaft down to where a prop collet will fit up against the bell coller, that helps to keep the motor shaft from bending.

Certainly not..... MC is fine if you buy and have access to the motors it lists. nearly 75% of my motors are not listed in MC and to be honest not everyone likes it.

My table is a basic look-up table with tested results alongside theoretical. Nothing fancy.

Basically a person sees a motor on Hk site... looks on the table. he sees what it does.... what lipo and esc.... what couldbe simpler?

If people want to adapt it by creating a sewrch feature - thats up to them.

So back to data please....

Noted that HK have put Speed props in their APC Style listings now ...

If I've wanted more than 5" pitch in small sizes before - I've cropped down a 7x6 or similar ... which is actually pretty inefficient blade shape etc.

Interested in the 5.5 x 5.5 size ... this may just be the ticket I'm looking for on the 1950 - 2150kv motors.

Anyone used these yet ?

I am going to have to Pick up some of those 5.5 x 5.5 prop blades, I think they are a perfect Size for a lot of my park flyer builds, Thanks Nigel for the heads up.

Seems they've realised that the centre part of APC style props they do are weak - judging by the pictures of the Speed versions.

Noted also they seem to have caught on to intermediate sizes ... not a bad idea ...

I can see a lot of my high speed / smaller models swapping over to these...
