$100 Twin Build Contest Beech Starship

My build will be the Beechcraft Starship.
Only reference for the build will a 3 view I found and pictures of the actual aircraft.

At this stage it looks like it will have a 40" span. To try and keep the dimensions as scale as possible power will most likely come from a pair of 2826 brushless motors spinning 6x4 slow fly props.
Entire build will be out of DT foam board. This will not be a profile build but have a built fuselage.
The wings, due to the nature of the leading edge curve will utilize a KFM airfoil both for ease of build and inherent strength.

This will be my first build without plans, should be interesting.

Got some work done today. It'll be a slow build as I only have a few hours per week for building.
It won't be a pretty build as I'm still learning but illnpost any updates as they happen.

Started on the fuse as it will be the most difficult part of the build for me.http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/...psslae94j4.jpg

Nice choice! Good luck! I used to see one occasionally at O'Hare when I worked there. I guess Beech didn't want to keep supporting them and bought them all back and destroyed them. But one guy held out... Wonder if it's still out there?

Wrongway-Feldman 04-20-2014 04:53 PM

From what I have learned all but 8 of the craft were leased and taken back by beech to be destroyed. The other 8 were privately owned and still flying.

Sorry to say I have to pull out of the contest.
Found out yesterday I'm having shoulder surgery in about a month.
It could be months after that that I could start using my arm again. So that means the next month could be all the flying time I have this season. I'm going to spend it flying my planes and learning to fly my quad.
I'll continue the build after recovery once I have use of two arms again.

Our best wishes for a speedy recovery and success with the Surgery.

Don't give up on it - as you say - you will get back to it when you can. We can wait !

Cheers
Nigel

New contest idea! Build a plane one handed!!!:D

Sorry to hear, I was looking forward to this build. Speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear it. Though I think Bronc has an amusing idea! Imagine the planes that come out of that one! Well, fly all you can, then best wishes for a speedy recovery. Maybe you'll have time for lots of one handed typing here in the meanwhile!

Dang Wronway,

Bummer. Was especially looking forward to this one. Been there on the shoulder surgery. Like new. Best of luck and speedy recovery.

Hey maybe there can be a " helping hands" exemption.

Thanks for the well wishes guys.
I was thinking about getting a micro quad and flying it single handed in the living room while recovering. Controller is small and easy to handle while laying on a table

mmm the 959 I have is not quite single handed ... but the 911 heli could be... I have that also .. they keep me (in)sane when I can't get outside for a proper RC fix.
