I finally got around to finishin' it! I purchased Chellies custom made LG for it, and she did an OUTSTANDING job makin it, but for some reason, ive got this thing for Doral styled LG, so i made my own! Hope yer not mad at me Chellie!:concern::) Its got a Power up 1050KV 400 sport outrunner motor/ GWS 8040 prop...i hope this will be enough power for the plane to fly reasonably well.....if anyone has a better suggestion for a prop, please let me know...im all ears! Im a little nervous about the first flight....im hoping the stick time ive got with my Sbach, and Yak 54 micros will help me keep this plane in one piece!!! This is the biggest E-plane ive had so far, so if anyone wants to throw some advice my way before i fly it, please....FEEL FREE!!:)

Lookin' good bro.

You'll love the Mosa II. Easy to fly really. I used a 12 x 6 APC in mine.

Thanks TB! Dahawk, what motor did you use? brushed w/geardrive? Brushless outrunner? Im trying to figure out where im actually at with the motor/ prop combo i chose! Thanks!

Bill,

I used an Emax 2820/07: http://www.headsuphobby.com/Emax-BL2...otor-F-291.htm

Was major overkill but that's what I had available at the time.. If I did one again, I'd probably go with a 1000KV Turnigy SK3 series.

Made a lot of mods to mine including installing custom designed Chelliegear.: http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/show...ght=Formosa+II

Really liked that plane (past tense) She finally succumbed to my flying skills.

Best of luck o the maiden !

This is the Acipiter Badius pattern model ... which I believe is a remake of the GWS Formosa ...

http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72757

I have 275W RC Timer 2830 1300kv ...

On this baby - a 10x5 makes her perform ... or a 9x6 ....

For comparison of size - this is a 910mm span machine.

8x6 was ok ... but she needed just that bit of edge to get her really performing.

Sure appreciate all the help! I think ive got a 9X5 and a 9X6 prop, so ill give it a GO!:) How about throw rates and expo set ups for a maiden....any suggestions?

solentlife 05-26-2014 10:40 AM

Funny thing is .... I didn't find the throws that critical ... unlike the old pattern machines I flew decades ago ...

I eyeballed the Badius to what I thought was average for a low-wing sport machine ... and DR was 60% of that.

I suppose elevators were about 10 - 12mm UP / DOWN with 6 - 8mm DR
Ailerons were similar about 7 - 9mm ... DR about 5 -6

Rudder - I usually set to maximum possible and then set a DR at about 50 - 60% for ground handling.

Expo - I usually start quite high for initial flights - to give me a softer centre just in case throws are too wild..... about the 60% mark. Dialing back once I have maidened ... often to about 30%, with rudder still up high for ground handling.

As I say though - I eyeballed mine - never actually measured the throws. Flew her and all seemed OK ... I did increase elevator a touch - so that's probably about 12+mm now on full ...
