gov banning "drones" at 400 national parks

http://m.ksl.com/index/story/sid/30390951

sorry for the mobile link.

i hope the wording will come out as national parks rather than federal land. most places i fly are owned by the feds, with permission.

Thanks, Hay. Good article. It sounds like due to the incidents they cited, they are doing what they have to do, thanks to the irresponsible users out there. Glad to see they differentiated the 'drone' people from the "(model aircraft) hobbyists". Things are going as expected for RC 'drones', just hope it doesn't spread to us hobbyists.

Model aircraft (and many other things) are prohibited in New York State parks unless you have a permit. This includes Niagara Falls State Park...

I too read through and the text reads showing understanding of the model differences.
It also allows high altitude flights - so it recognises the low altitude flight aspects.

I agree - the old saying .. "Make your bed - you have to lay on it" ....

Of course it will now be ripped into by those it directly affects. It remains to be seen how it is attacked and what reasoning used.

I donno . . . "unmanned aircraft" Although "drone" is mentioned the directive sez "unmanned aircraft" which includes every freaking model I have. Hopefully the AMA legals are all over this because the ignorance of government drones (ha ha) over what we do is appalling.

Read it carefully ... he states 'responsible model aircraft hobbyists' ... he does clearly define what he's talking about and I think he has done his homework.

Plus - it also says 'permitted' .. agreements in place etc. So he is not blanket banning .. he's leaving it that clubs, persons can gain permitted flying in the areas covered.

In UK - there are many areas like that ... you apply for permit .. you show insurance ... and you are free to fly. Better that than uncontrolled free-for-all and trouble.
I can remember years ago when CB radios were ruining model flying .... we had 27Mhz then.
On one site where the CB'rs liked the height to get range - we had crashes ... because it was a PERMIT site - we had leverage to close the site to CB'rs ...
