Classics Never Get Old: Phase3 F-16

Well gang, I knew it was just a matter of time before I built another one of these. I blame AnglerHi for the addiction! When I saw his for the first time I knew I would have one.

Long story short: I bought one of the RR kits on sale and for several years she was my favorite plane. I'm a dummy and crashed it, but I loved it so much I had to have another. The receiver ready kits are discontinued (I think) so when the body-only kits went on sale for $39 shipped I just couldn't resist.

Anywho; I am going for the Edwards safety scheme.
E-flite Delta V 480 with the stock fan.
60 amp ESC
3 cell 1800 ~ 2200 mAh battery.

There have been many build threads on this model so I won't type what has already been published. But I did take pictures. :)

Here is what I have completed so far.

She is finished. I found some roughly 1/15 scale decals and printed them on regular paper. They are just cut out and glued on.

If anyone knows of a good way to seal these paper markings on I'm open for suggestions.

I reckon she won't win any contests but I am pleased with the final product.

No pictures of the bottom. It's not scale at all. I'm pretty much using the stock Phase3 decals because they provide an excellent visual contrast to the top.

This little bird is tiny and PDQ. Contrast is good. :D

Here are the rest of the pictures.

Hello,
this is my Phase3 F-16 - fully glased with PU and 25g. Powered with 65mm cyclon power metal shroud / CS10 blade rotor on 4S/2600

Thanks for the pictures, hps52.

She's a beauty for sure.

And WELCOME to WattFlyer! It's always great to see new faces. :)

I bet that 10 blade fan sounds awesome.

Both the jets look great. Is the 65mm fan unit the only one that will fit these?

hps52 08-16-2014 07:09 AM

No, with some work also 70mm EDF will fit!

I work at Hobby People and have been telling people that the stock Phase 3 fan unit with a 3 blade impellor is 70mm. I will verify that today, I really hate it when I tell customers wrong information.

If it's the same size motor as the Squall, it would be 70mm. I have both planes. The only negative to the Phase 3's is the fact they use " beer cooler" foam. Needs protection(glassing) or face the fact that it will crumble in a thousand pieces when you crash.

The F-16 is arguably the easiest edf plane out there. Have seen a few hop-ups with the Mercury 10 blade setup. Impressive.

HPS, your livery scheme makes me want to Yodel ! Nicely done and welcome to WF

Well today I did check the Phase 3 fan unit and to my surprise there is no mention of size anywhere. I believe my information came from somebody working at the store some time back and I took if for granted. Yes the same fan unit for the Squall so I still am thinking it's 70mm. There is a five blade impellor and a 3 cell motor also available. Don't really know what the stock fan unit comes with, but given it's three blades I am guessing it's a 4 cell package. I will continue to try and get more information.
