FMS Extra 300 needs more power...ideas?
 
Anyone have recommendation for boosting power on this plane?
Has a proprietary type prop shaft on it.

Have you checked the watts input to your motor with one of those wattmeters?

Your model is around 4 pounds, so good performance would be around 150 Watts per pound, or 600 Watts. Go above that, and look out!

I've got a Vyper model of about the same size and weight with aHyperion HP-Z3025-10 motor up front. This Z3025-10 motor might be a bit hard to find, mine came from Ebay. Running with a 5S A123 battery pack, this motor is running about 600 watts on a 13X6.5 prop that turns at 8300 RPM. The model flies straight up, and accelerates doing it.

Here is an 8 turn version of that motor. You'd have to play around with propeller sizes, and a wattmeter to set up optimum performance. FYI, this is a well made motor with real performance.

I don't know how strong your model is, but one thing to consider, really beefing up your power system could result in in flight structure failure of your model. From what I can tell, this is a foamie model, so putting far more power up front could be a real issue.

This motor is going to turn an 11-6 prop at some 12,000 RPM on a 4S LiPo battery, pulling around 60 Amps, and 700 Watts. Also, check out the various $$$$ Hacker A30 and A40 series motors. I've got two A40 motors that perform well on models weighing in at about 4.5 pounds.

What will help you on this model is one of those computer programs. I've been using www.motocalc.com, that works out well.

In theory those specs should be giving plenty of power. I'd also suggest putting a wattmeter on it to see what's going on. It could be that it's just a case of the battery being tired and not holding voltage.

use a 5 cell lipo 3000 mah and a 12 x 6 - 2 blade apc prop, check your Amp and Watts, keep the Amps to about 60 Amps, make sure your ESC can handle a 5 cell lipo
