He unsoldered the old motor from the ESC and soldered on new bullet connectors to the new motor and ESC, my recommendation. He then plugged the new motor up to the ESC.

Shouldn't. Just means the discharge rate of the battery is 65 times the battery rating. 1.8a x 65. The ESC just converts the DC to a three phase AC voltage for the motor with a variable frequency....
