Purpose is to make sure the spoiler closes when commanded baring a servo failure. Loads on the servo from a spoiler are trivial with all schemes that I have seen and are never an issue.

Weight is most important in glide on in calm conditions. Those conditions seldom exist in these parts and some weight is desirable. I don't obsess about it.
