Hitec has a nice site on the internet that will answer your questions if the receiver is not to old. You can also email to their tech support team and will get a reply in a couple of hours or so....

The advantage of the float charger is that it turns itself Off when the battery is fully charged and will not cook the battery. The trickle can over time cook the battery even at 600 ma rate.:D
