The best way to learn to fly is to join a club. They will have instructors and the probably something to learn on. You can then buy something of your own when you have mastered some of the basics.

If you are going to learn by yourself the Bixler is a reasonable choice. Fairly slow and pretty tough, important as you will crash a good few times before you have acquired the necessary eye/brain/hand coordination!
Getting a proper RC simulator can help in understanding what happens and how the plane actually looks when in the air.
