While the specs are similar the price difference is almost 50 to 30 percent less.
While I am sure there are some factories that make several makes brands and qualities of motors, no they are not all coming from one.
The quality of components is a big difference. Magnets, the stator core, and bearings vary vastly in quality. Some of those really cheap bell type motors use really crappy components and you are likely only getting about 40-50% of the input power to the prop. High quality brushless can go well into the 80% efficiency realm. Brushed can be into the 90% range! So you may be flushing almost half of your power down the drain.
The question is - does it matter? On some planes I just don't care and I want the cheap. Like our full contact combat models. Cheap is all you want as you will crash all the time.
When comparing an E-flite motor you must consider it is sold by a company that does have a higher quality standard, R&D, advertising and a MUCH better service and return policy. All of those items raise costs.
I am perfectly happy with cheap motors on some planes but use much higher quality motors on planes I care about. It is just nice to have a choice.
