Flyzone playmate radio range

I got a flyzone playmate small airplane for my 11 yrs. old boy (he already flys an avistar), the kid tried, and the plane went down, motor shut off and plane turned left with no control, landed well, since it is so light glides well.
We checked radio range figuring the motr shutoff may be radio or battery related
but the radio stops working on ground at 3 meters (9 feet).

My LHS told me to bring the plane and either replace it or refund with no problem, just checking how many of you guys had the same problem?

I have flown my Playmate several hundred feet away and had not problem. I did have a problem with the esc at about 3 months and many flights. I sent an e-mail describing the problem and the company sent me a new board and it corrected the problem. I love flying that little plane.

The esc would cut off and I would have to bring the throttle to off and them bring it back up to get it to work again. I was flying outdoors and just flew it high enough to shut the throttle off and back on to start the motor, but when I started to fly in a gym, I couldn't fly high enough all the time so I replaced the board with the new board and it has been great since.

I have had the Playmate for about a year or more.

A patient gave me an Albatross as christmas gift, still unopened hope this one works, next sat. will be back in Texas to take the playmate and exchange it.
