Talking Finally did some substantial damage to the HZ Super Cub!

After weeks of putting my Super Cub into prediciments beyond my skill level, I've finally managed to break something! Flying conditions were ideal this evening. Absolutely NO wind for the first time in weeks. I flew my HZ SC into the quiet evening serenity. No loops, no inverted flight, no hammerheads, just smooth flying on the calmest evening I have experienced yet to date. Decided to try a new approach pattern on my last flight of the evening. Flying a typical left-hand approach, I deviated beyond my normal back yard field. Shot a nice approach over the cemetary. Downwind and base legs are very easy. Final requires slipping between two rather unsubstantial trees.

Turned onto final a milisecond too soon, causing the left wingtip to ever so lightly clip the tree between runway 0 left and runway 0 right (intended target). SC snap rolls and hits spinner first on 0 left. Cracked the motor mount, leaving the motor dangling.

Do I make the easy repair or upgrade to a brushless? Maybe ailerons? I've been WAY cocky with this plane. It is so EASY to fly that I'm getting kind of bored with it. Kind of glad I finally broke something!

All of my landings are three point landings if you count the spinner, too

of course I am partial to the Cessna 182 SST 55" 5chan. trainer from nitroplanes(my dad flew one for yrs) It was a definite challenge at first. I like it more and more whenever I fly it. Fast lander, but flys really well for me. IMO On a scale of 1 to 5, it is a 3 or 4 aileron trainer. hope to fly this wknd, havent flown for two weeks and I am starting to go crazy.!!

Damned nice looking airplane! Looks Like a Cessna 182 to me. Had a 182 straight tail sitting in my back yard as a project when I was in high school. Also had a Citabria. Both needed extensive work. My (@$$hole) father sold both prematurely. That Citabria was something special. Wish I had it today!

Does look like a neat plane. IMHO however the spareparts look a bit pricey. Then again as much as I crash my cub I guess spare parts would be the first thing I look at before I look at the other details.
Just my inexperienced 2 cents

thx and yes parts are hard to come by too. If I do break something.....the MacGyver in me comes out and fixes everything with a can of tuna, toothpick and a crescent.

and FB its not inexperience on looking for spare parts and prices before buying, very very good idea and I wish I had done it a couple times before I bought something.

have a good one
