Default How to change Mode 4 to 2 or 1 to 2 Diagram is?

I need some help understanding the diagram below. Would you not have to disconnect the OEM wiring 1st?

I have a new ship that needs to go from mode 1 to 2 also now.

Thankyou in advance.
