Wow. I would just like to clarify to everyone, I am NOT a native Californian! Hope that 'officer' will be driving a desk for a long time.

Chulajuana's finest, the ONLY reason I even go into that area is Harbor Freight.
I would have loved to listen to that conversation. I am sure the FF has had extensive training on where and how to park that truck at the scene. The cop however, probably had a Power Point read to him once on it.

I'm either going to get good at flying em, or get good at fixin em!

As I figured the FireFighter was "protecting the scene" as training dictates. You would imagine that - I see it all the time here. It protects the victims and the responders - including the Police! FF was a 12 year veteran. Any bets on how long the cop has been on patrol? Maybe a better bet how long he will continue to be on patrol?

They have still not released the cops name - but how I would have liked to be a fly on the wall of the meeting between the chiefs.

The problem with out police. They have too much power. There are checks and ballances. But, its the police that do that. We had similar problems once when my crew showed up to open a freeway back up because of downed fiber optic lines. They wanted us to keep our trucks off of the closed freeway where the pole was located. the cop arrested one of my ground hands for suspision of drug possesion. He was a national guards guy with no history of drug use. Spent three days in jail and was released without any charges being filed.

Well and I am thinking about the situation where that firefighter/Paramedic/EMT shows up when that same officer has been hurt, shot or injured. Karma baby....

My guess is it was a younger guy that got lippy. Generally if you treat people with respect you get it back. Tempers flair easily.

What's "only in California" got to do with it.....?

Have you ever dealt with a New York City cop, an Alabama State Trooper....or for that matter a Texas (Dallas to be specific) cop while driving a vehicle with California plates (a Subaru Impreza WRX to be specific).....and not have committed any violation (the WRX is a sleeper, no tinted windows, not lowered, tuned exhaust, cold air intake, upper/lower down pipes, stock blow-off, white and stock rims) and a 60yr old driver, me!

On all three occassions, was not issued a citation....after I handed them my license, pink slip and insurance doc's......the New York cop applogized, the other two gave me a ration of crap and some BS about the Subie being a race car.....lmao and waste my time (although 0 to 60 is under 4.7sec)..............thus, the sleeper comment!

Because I think it unlikely elsewhere. A good deal of my family now gone from there. NY cop arresting a firefighter no way. Here in the south the good old boys are pretty nice to one another.

Sorry but seeing it occurred in southern Cal was not a shocker to me.

As a 33 year veteran of the fire service I will be the first to say this is BULL SH!T. Pardon my french but I call it the way I see it.

The engineer (Engine driver/pump operator) did every thing by the written SOP (standard operating procedures). This cop was on a power trip and from other reports I've read wanted the truck moved so the traffic wouldn't get so backed up... really???

This was not some minor fender bender that could have been moved out of the roadway. It was a vehicle rollover with entrapment that required a lot of equipment and men on on the road to perform a safe operation. This moron cop wanted the traffic lane immediately next to the accident re opened.

what an idiot. plain and simple.

someone mentioned the cop being in an accident and karma, you know the funny thing is is that Fire Engineer and the rest of them that responded that night would treat him just as good as those they were treating that night. Moron or not he would still get the best care, and the road would be blocked again so no one could be hurt at the scene.

One more note. I was filling the position of Battalion Chief at local Volunteer Dept back in the 90's in Tennessee when I was on recruiting duty for the Air Force. One of my firefighters was getting some gear off the back of the truck at the scene of an accident when another drunk came out of nowhere at about 60 mph and rear ended our truck. Two broken femurs along with other injuries and years of rehabilitation and that man still can't walk right. Never will be able to.

That along with thousands of other accidents like that is why WE BLOCK THE DAMN ROAD!

Bill - I was waiting for you to chime in.... This story hit national morning shows today. I suspect the CHP chief is under a table somewhere - and one cop is on Admin leave for a few days. They still have not released the cops name.

Even when I have been stuck in traffic, sitting and frustrated when I get to the mess and see fire dept there - I smile and am thankful that those are the guys that very likely could be saving me in exactly the same situation.

Two responses from local fire dept. to our home with "#2" child (he is a tad accident prone) plus one a ruptured appendix and I can't tell you how professional, kind, attentive and helpful they were. All firefighters here in North TX are all required to be both EMT-P and Firefighters. So they also come with HIGH levels of medical training and certifications.

They were amazing to watch - so skilled and less than 5 minute response to our house. Those guys, like you, are heros. Professionals in every respect.

Listen to the whole incident both CHP and Fire radio transmissions recorded here:
http://laist.com/2014/02/06/listen_t...s_that_led.php

I wish we could hear the cell phone call requested. Suspect it was resolved quickly and again professionally.
