Pusher = Longer flight times, torque effects in high speed tight rolls.
Edf = faster, noisier, shorter flight times.
Edf version awaiting a Edf upgrades from don at wicked rc. Should get close to 100mph.
To get the same performance at the same weight the EDF need 50% more watts to go the same speed as the pusher. (as much about the aircraft being the same as possible)
We tend to put in double the watts when going EDF, add a marginal amount of weight and take a huge hit on duration.
The EDF having a reputation as being faster is a fallacy based on the tendency to add a lot more power. Put the same power pusher on and you'd go even faster and get similar flight duration compared to the EDF.
I should have explained... My preferred / recommended setup for each type gave the EDF higher speed and the Pusher greater duration.
The reason I did this, was because I wanted my pusher to be an easy to fly parkjet which has a nice and low wing loading (9.5oz/ft2) so I can throw it into the air with an easy hand launch, and 'plop' landing.
I wanted my EDF version to look and behave like a fast jet, to be an exhillarating crowd pleaser. so I am about to fit a couple of 4s 4800kv wicked motors in the Wemotec 50mm fan unit it is heavier at approx 900g (11.7oz/ft2 wing loading). If my calculations are correct, then it should reach close to 100mph. I know that EDF is much less efficient, but it helps to feel like a real jet, which I totally love!
Because of the higher wing loading, I designed a launch trolley to help me take off from grass. It may hand launch but I've not got a feel for how it will handle yet.
I am also at sometime going to convert my proto to use a turnigy 2836-2350 on a 4s setup with a smaller pusher prop which should really scare the pigeons!!
