Is it possible to power up a spektrum DSMX via the Bind Data plug for a two battery system? Like other ports?

Too many hobbies, and not enough time!

Yes it is.

FYI, the standard configuration for ALL servo connectors is black or negative, red or positive, and another color for signal from one end to the other end. If you grab a digital multimeter and check continuity between servo connectors, you will find the bottom row are all common, the middle row are all common, with the top row being individual servo control signals. So a two wire battery plug connected to the Bind Data connector works just fine.

In fact, on my giant scale models with dual receiver power supplies, one connects to the standard receiver DC input, the backup connects to the Bind Data connector.

I'm running the AR9000 with 4 8611a's and 9 8411s with a Powerbox Champion 4024 and two Powerbox 2800mah batteries without any problems. Powerbox setups are ideal for this kind of setup since your receiver should get constant voltage through the Powerbox. A friend of mine is running all 8711's with this setup and hasn't had a problem either.
