BREWSTER 9MM COMBAT FIGHTER
![]() Specs: Foam Combat Fighter WS: 30 inches Fuse: 25 1/4 inches Material: 9mm depron Controls: Aileron/Elevator Channel: 3 Motor/Aileron/Elevator AUW: 12oz to 14oz Depending on build style Power: 20oz Thrust or higher Motor: 2409-12T or 2409-18T ESC: 32amp Battery: 7.4 or 11.1 1000mAh or higher Prop: APC 8.4 to 8.6 Servos: 5 or 9 gram Micro servos What you need to build the Brewster 30 9mm Depron: (2sheets) 15x36 Wing Spar: (1 36"in) 1/8 CF rod or 1/4 wooden dowel Tail Spar: (1 36"in) .047 metal rod "Used as control rods too" Motor Stick: (1) 3/8 square wood stock Control Hinges: Fiberglass packing tape Control Horns: Du-Bro #919 Mirco control horns or simuliar Glues Used: Hot glue & 5min Epoxy Velcro: (1) 4in strip self adhesive "Industrial Strength" works best. The Brewster 30 is a excellent outdoor flyer that is easy to build and fun to fly. The Brewster carries great aerobatic combat abilities and is really a relative easy flyer for the new pilot as I am one myself . I have found that adding weight to the Brewster will not only determine your air speed, and stunt ability, but will also allow you to fly in 10-15mph winds with no problem. I like my Brewster to be around 12 to 14oz...I change weights by changing the size of my lipo in most cases. but at any rate the Brewster flies great in 10mph winds at 12oz.As most might know I have a post already with the start of the Brewster 30". My other post on the Brewster is made from 5/8 Home Depot pink foam and this build is my production model Brewster 30" made in 9mm depron with plans. Short foam kits will be availible soon, as I am working on the production methods now. I do however have a limited supply of short kits if you wish to build the Brewster 30" this way. They are availible in the for sale section of Wattflyer. You can build this Brewster from whatever material you wish, you only need to change the plans to fit your build material thickness. If you do choose to build the Brewster 30 in a lighter material such as 6mm or fanfold you will need to make sure that you support the foam parts so you reduce foam flop. The 6mm flies awesome in lite wind days, but to lite for 10mph days if not supported correctly. My planes are designed around park flying outdoors in wind, so my construction methods follow my enviorment. As this plane is being set up for production I plan to use this post to show the build of the 9mm depron Brewster 30 with the hopes of helping you build yours. ![]() Thia is fuse it is made from two 5mm foam core poster boards glued together....very tough. I fly mine in the woods so it has to be tough....it is a bit heavy but should fly well with the little Esky Brushless you see there. She will be powered by a Common Sense RC 11.1volt 1350....on the other side.. Black fuse and white wing and tail feathers they are from two sheets of CellFoam 5mm glued together.... ![]() These are the full size plans.....I had two n=made so I could see the whole deal and have templates....pretty neat and a great effort. I have one question, did you include the peace sign there as your contribution?? or did this bird fly someplace I am unaware of??....quite possible because I know very little of such things. Full size plans I usually have Copymax do them up, about 5$ they snatch it right off flash, floppy, or CD--there are two in the wichita KS area that i know of--city blueprint next choice..looking good!

You mean the cross on the fuse? If so the cross is the Finnish army logo...most people think German when they see this, but its not a iron cross, its a Finnish Army insign. Anyhow if you want the history on the Brewster Buffalo, just take a look at my other Brewster in 5/8 pink foam thread here on watts in Foamies...it has all the stories of this plane. If Im wrong about the peace sign, point me the right way I wil be glad to answer.

Looking good LipoPilot......I will be assembling mine tonight....do I have to worry about thrust angle when I install the motor ??? You don't show any, but I thought I should ask.....and I was going to use epoxy there correct? and it is embedded into the foam as in cut the complete slot and replace with the stick??? Or ??
Sorry to be such a newb....but this is my second foam build and the first one was a disaster based on my over use of HOT GLUE....wieged 2.75 pounds.... ![]() So I just want to be sure I am doing this right. TalonOne |

Template Tips, for those of us who would like to build more then one Brewster "crashing" usaully cause the opt for better templates..here what I do.

As far a motor angle, I was asked this same question by our CAD designer. Here is my experience with the Brewster, as most planes do, it will cimb all by its self if it needs down angle on the motor..this is if you go full throttle and the plane climbs...well to the best of my memory I never faced this issue, so my answer to this is..apply the motor stick as shown in plan. Now I will also admit I am a new pilot..and this type of action, may have possibly been happening to the level motor Brewster, but as I said I dont remember fighting any climb or fall in the Brewster. So here is what i would do. Mount motor as show, leaving the single screw to hold the motor on the stick...if you use the same mount i do and you have this option. DO NOT GLUE MOTOR...just yet. Fly the Brewster first and see if you see a need for motor alignment or not. This way it will be simple to change the angle of the motor..as you will shape the stick to point the motor mount down if need be. DEG the cad designer said most it could possible be..with his experience in planes is about 3 degrees down, "he suggested this angle for plan" but as I said, go as plan shows as I know I didnt have this problem..or didnt see it anyhow. What ever the outcome is, I know when I fly this build that will be the first thing I look for...if you beat me to flight..we you know the drill...flight report. If you find it perfect, then come in..go home and mount the motor for good. With that said..if we find any issues with the Brewster due to my lack of flight time and being able to reconize what most official pilots would call a good flying plane...or bad..."I determine this by time in air LoL" Then we simply change the plans. I will accpet the fact..I made a plane that flies good for me as I am sure it will for anyone else..but with human error, I would bet money theres room for improvement...I wait to see what those improvements are. I seriousy look forward to the changes that come from many people flying my favorite warbird fighter. So in short...as the Brewster is flown..Im sure it will only improve from my hands to yours. Back to the video making... |

Sorry miss the epxoy the stick question..yes epoxy the motor stick in the fuse leaving the last half 1/2 inch for the motor mount to fit on..or what you need for it to slide on your stick...you will come back and glue the left over part after you find the motor alignment is right to your likings.
And also no need for sorry...if I wasnt interested in helping the NEWBEE as you call yourself..then this post wouldnt be here..so ask away...NEWBEE. The AUW 'All Up Weight" of the Brewster flies real nice around 12 to 14oz. you can build at ten but i find it flies real light in winds..so I like mine a little heavier for the solid flight in good winds. When cutting the motor stick mount hole you want this to be all the way thru the foam as the stick you will use to hold the motor is close to the thickness of the foam fuse "if 9mm". When you epoxy in the stick..glue the top and bottom...use very little epoxy as it does not take much. Also I suggest gluing the stick in..with the fuse on a flat surface...and wax paper under so it does not stick to the table...also laying the fuse on its side..on flat surface will insure right and left angle is perfect to the fuse..making the stick glue in straight with the fuse. Now Glue stick gluing...hot glue, I cant imagine what you built with hot glue that could possibly weight that weight..that adds up to about 500 sticks of glue. Yea um TOO MUCHO...Hot glue is strong and in this build you will see how I use it. Epoxy is strong also but weighs more then hot glue stick..if you take a glue stick weigh it..not heavy at all. So hot is the way to go..I love it, but you also have to use it properly...if you will hold off on the assemble..I will cover this application in next videos..almost there..Im installing the ailerons, and elevator controls now...making a foam wing hinge next..then the part your asking about. But to answer you real quick, the brewster has only glue stick in it...so pause on your assembly..I might save you 499 glue sticks ...keep on building and remember..if you don't like the way you do this one...well watch that make more then one video...Template Tips.

Ok I maidened the Brewster today...nice flying airframe...no video unfortunately.
It flew well....except for the inept pilot and a darn tree at the edge of the sky!! Yes I put it into a tree on the first flight.....should have gone to the field but I wanted to dial it in in the front yard and the plane did fine....I just went left when I should have gone right......I retrieved it with minimal damage ....In fact I will have it out again this afternoon or tomorrow depending on the wind. Great Design lipopilot.....glad I made the templates, as I will build a few of these for sure. Just FYI. TalonOne OUT |

Awesome news for sure and I appreciate those who do build it. One of the reason I said make templates is not because you will fly into a tree on the first flight,
but as most will learn the Brewster is a real flyer and it just seems natural to build more then one, Im now on Brewster #19.Anyhow I will assume Talonone that you had no time to notice climb out on full power? In other words is the motor running nice for you on level as the plans show? Also just so you know, no front yard flying lol...the Brewster is design for WIDE OPEN spaces...I have the same issues with trees..if there is one on the property..I will trim it, just ask airfoil my flying pal. My hard work? Your welcome I love to make stuff...but all credit is not just mine, those responsible are watching and not speaking. Most of the credit goes to our CAD designer, then the fellow who filmed all the flights, then me for sharing it, and wattflyer for letting me. |
