This is not a park, it's a retention pond. It's right by the US Cellular call center.

Where is Hicks Park?

There is a nice water retention pond across the street from my house (just south of the intersection of 71st and Garnett) -- that's only 3 miles south of the Unclub.

Calvin and my kids and I have raced boats there -- there's plenty of room for an E-Starter.

I live at shoreline. There is a nice big "lake" here that I drive my boat in. It is where I first started flying at and still do test flights here.

Small isn't always a bad thing when it comes to flying off water. The lake I used to fly off was huge, thus when you came in bad (not that I ever did ) you had to have a boat. A retention pond or something would be great just in case.

Looks cool Court, the place at Hicks park is actually a Mingo creek I think, its about 20 ft wide there. I don't think its very deep either I saw them walk a backhoe down the middle of the creek when they were getting ready to work on the bridge on Migo between 31 and 41st. The water wasn't up but to about the middle of the tracks so Its not over about knee deep if you had to go get one.

Hey fellow Unclubers

Got a proposition for you, one of the managers where I work has a 4 or 5 year old son who suffers from a disease called chiari syndrome. It has something to do with the brain sitting on the brainstem causing a lack of spinal fluid or something.
Anyway, my wife has been arranging a raffle to try and raise funds to help pay some of the medical bills, and just help out with everyday expenses. As his medical bills are already over $250,000.00 there is not a lot can be done other than pray for someone to step up and help that has lots of money.
What I am wanting to present to you guys is this. They are having an event Saturday at Whiteside park, some of us fly there pretty regularly. They are going to be playing flag football if any of you get into that. Myself I stay away from sports other than the one we all have in common . But, my thought was that if some of you guys can arrange to be over there Saturday afternoon we might be able to let some outsiders see and enjoy the wonder of rc flight. Also, maybe we could attract some more flyers. My wife will be set up selling hotdogs and softdrinks, and it might be a good time.
Anyone wants to come fly let me know.

I just thought it might be a good way to attract attention for the fund raiser and maybe promote rc flight.

That is what I have been thinking. I won't have a water rudder so if the breeze is too strong I may only be able to taxi in one direction. I like the idea of Hicks park and Mingo Creek, I think I can hit a 20' runway. I could bring a couple of sticks of PVC and then we shouldn't have to worry about going swimming.

I'm a wimp when it comes to the cold and I am telling you right now that there is no way I am getting in the water .

The wind report looks horrible for Saturday but I will come by and try to fly a few packs out and eat a hot dog or 2, probably bring my peeps with me.

I will pass on the football, I get beat up enough at work .

As some know, I'm a "regular" at Whiteside. That's where I fly 90% of the time during the week. And can tell you on Saturday's, there's always a large group of folks that "play medieval" stuff on Saturdays. But they don't use the main field. If it's not too windy I'll try to be there. But like James says -the look atrocious Saturday. It really is a great field to fly in though when it's empty. In the afternoons it's almost always empty other than a few folks walking the perimeter - and that's when I usually fly there.

Hey - I got the Realflight flight simulator latest upgrade to G5. It includes stuff such as various modes of combat and other stuff. Here's a flight I did with the P-51 in "combat" mode - no flaps, landing gear is controlled by the throttle... throttle back a bit and the gear comes down - throttle up and the gear goes up. Saves a channel I guess. And guns & rockets. I found the standard is 3 volleys of rockets is it - so gotta use them sparingly. The guns seem to go on forever. I'm sure all that can be tweaked in the settings if wanted.

Another thing - the ground never seems to be damaged - which is probably a GOOD thing on THIS flight - else I'd have had no airstrip to land on! HA H! But those rockets make for some good fireworks!

you need another plane to shoot down, or birds or targets or something.
That is a very cool upgrade. I just have the G2 version from about 10 years ago.
Can you go online and combat other people?
You should try shooting one of those missles the second you touch down on your landing and see if your plane makes it.

I'm mad I can't afford Real Flight, and I just found out they are not going to release the light version apparently. Guess I'll have to settle for watching your videos Doug.

Yep - you're supposed to be able to fly combat with others in the net. Seems I heard somewhere there was a limit of 32 total pilots in one session. It also has paintball, streamer cut and a targeting option. Haven't messed with any of that yet though. Just got it late yesterday..

I really don't think the weapons do any damage to the ground or other scenery - but not sure about your own airplane! Guess a guy would have to try the online deal to see how it works..

Jack where is whitside park? Is it the one west of yale on 41st street?
I won't be at the Unclub till after 10:30, unless the winds are over 20mph, then I won't come at all.
I sold my T-Rex, but I'm not sure if I can buy your radian. I'll lose $50 if I don't use all of the money as store credit. How much would you sell the Radian with the reciever? How about $130 with the Reciever?
I've already used about $170, I pre-ordered the micro 4-Site. I'm the first to pay in full, so I'll get plane #1 from Model Works.

Brett - yup - 41st & Pittsburg. Large field in the back by the activity center... I really like it because you can just back up to the field - take a few steps and fly. Much like the unclub.

I'll try to quit sending these - I promise. But it's fun! So here's a little virtual flight with a P-51 combat mode model.

I was raised with shoot'em ups on TV! Like the old TV show "Baa Baa Black Sheep" with Robert Conrad. An F4U Corsair is on my short list for my next airplane...

I like the real flight video. Yours is so much more real looking than mine.
The winds were a little high today so I decided to stay home. Maybe I'll go see a dollar movie.
I should go to riverside airport, they are having another WWII fly in thing. I can hear the B-25, and fighter planes flying over my house as we speak.

Changing the subject, I have a few cars for sale. My dad is having bad health and needs to get rid of some cars.
1. 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 cummings diesil dually truck, 6 speed 2 WD. Loaded all options, and the heavy duty suspension & towing pkg. He paid over $40 new. It books out at $13k. Will sell for $8500.
2. 93 Mazda 6, 5 speed, It runs, probably needs tires, and a tune up. $500

Just finished up a scratchbuilt white depron yardbird, tossed her in the air out back was across Memorial before I could turn it around. Gonna take it with me to Whiteside just in case it feels like I can toss her there.
Going to head over there about 1:30 to get ready for 2:00 football. There were a few guys at the Unclub this morning, I got there abou 7:15 or so Skip,Scotts friend and Scott were there. We flew out a few packs, Greg and Ben showed up. Greg flew out a pack then John flew his glider till the wind flipped him over. All in all it was a weak showing this morning, But, some of the Unclubbers did fly.
I guess I'll see anyone that shows up tomorrow before I have to leave to go towards Boley.
