They're reselling HK products for double the price. Really?

Most USA online sources I've found double the hobby king price. Its gotta get from China to them somehow. I'm glad they are offering the parts. I tried ordering from HK. It wasn't very much fun. They themselves mark up the price if you buy it from an HK USA warehouse.

Ordering from HK China is all about the price and low shipping cost. I order at least once a month from there, and it doesn't take anywhere near double the cost for shipping. Why would anybody (or Mountain Models) order from HK USA warehouse.

Yes of course, and the same with LHS. As stated the main and only goal of buying from HK China is price. So to be explicit, "Why would anybody (or Mountain Models) order from HK USA warehouse if price is their main concern." For a business they better not be buying stuff on a whim because they want it tomorrow.

IMO The plane alone is a good deal.

Although now I'm slightly annoyed about "This kit is proudly MADE IN THE USA!" when they don't mind re-selling HK junk for double the price.

i'm not sure why you think MM is ordering from a HK USA warehouse. I bet it comes from china. i wouldn't expect them to turn around and sell it for the same price paid. i know I would have a hard time making money doing that.

the lasercut kit is done in Colorado. the package offers the kit plus support pieces.

I'm saying at $8.75 anybody can order from the China warehouse (or other China distributor), have it shipped to the US and still make at very least $3 off that battery. Plus they're gonna jack you for S&H too so make it $5 for every battery.

Plus the claimed AUW is low. But I can understand since everybody lies about that.

Trouble is, I got called away out of town before it was delivered, and the poor little bird is layin on the front steps in the rain. Hope the USPS put a baggie on him.
BTW, the HK electrics Texas mentioned work great, got em on my Whims.

I did the build thread on RCGroups for Brian. I got my F-22 from him at NEAT, along with the motor, etc.

It is a very fun little plane. Brian designed it as a cul-de-sac/indoor flyer. Perhaps because of its size, it is pretty quick when you throttle up.

I don't know where Brian is sourcing the motors, etc. from. I do know the combination he's suggesting works very well in the F-22. A quick search indicates that his prices are comparable to other domestic retailers, like parkscalemodels.

All of my kits are Made in the USA. It's the one thing I can actually make here, so yes, I am VERY proud of that fact. (Yes, at times, I like being my own labor monkey)

If I could get electronics that were made in the USA, I would. I was/am carrying Custom CDR motors BECAUSE they are made here. Unfortunately, the prices are much higher, even though it's a better quality product, and they seem to be going out... Now, try to find an ESC, other motor, servos, etc made in the USA. You can't find them, and if you could, it would probably be 4 times the price.

The China place you mention has killed my accessory sales, period. They can sell things at a lower price than I can buy them from the manufacturer myself, and that's even with me buying 100's at a time. That place also lies on the customs forms so you don't have to pay for Customs, like we do. It used to be manufacturing moving over to China, now it's retail. What's going to be left here, except flippin' burgers, in the future?

Yeah, my prices are higher than China direct. If you don't like the price, don't buy them from me.

The F-22 isn't a speed demon, but it does OK for speed. That 5x3 3-blade is a really nice prop for that motor. (And, you can always go up to 3S if you want to puch it)

As for AUW, that's the range of the actual models I built. I NEVER lie on AUW of our models. I build at least 3 or 4 versions of a model, before it's released, weighing every single one. The lightest F-22 I built was 3.1 oz, but it didn't have enough glue to hold everythign together, so I left that number out. The one in the picture ended up at 3.4 oz with all the electronics installed. (and a lot of paint)

That sucks. I understand the Chinese market is hurting your company and other, buy there's consumers too. Buying this junk and reselling it for double is still bunk anyway you paint it. I wish there was a better way to operate.

Like I mention above, the bare bones kit looks nice and a good deal.

BTW, my company makes high end server data storage. We moved manufacturing to China until the US government refused to buy from us. At the time we moved it back to the US and found we could make the product for the same cost as China. So you don't have to worry about flippin burgers in the future.

On a completely different note. Can your next plane be something not everybody else makes. While the F-22 is nice everybody makes one. Some classic jet fighters would be nice.

Boy, I look away for 24 hours and this thread snuck in on me. And as a moderator for this forum, I'll not delete the thread. Instead I'll let it continue to run unless things get ugly (which I'm sure they won't, right guys ).

So with that said, this is a nice looking little plane. And this market seems to be growing fast too. Nico Hobbies has had a kit almost exactly like this available for some time now. And Yardbird just announced that they too are doing reduced size versions of their regular kits (but they will be more like 16").

And I'm not surprised at the stated flying weight. I have a Nico Hobbies plane, and with a 3S 450 lipo and slightly heavier electronics, I'm still at only 5.5oz AUW. And let me tell you, on a 3S lipo this thing really wakes up! I get unlimited vertical all day long.

I wish I had known about Nico before I released this plane. Damned, that is REALLY close.

Yeah, on 3S, it definitely "wakes up", but on 2S with the smaller battery and motor, it still goes vertical quite well. It's about 4 to 5 ounces of thrust, so it climbs like a ape.

It comes unpainted in white Depron. The fuselage top is in one piece. (Which is a pain for packaging, but it works) I tried several sizes, but ended up here because I could fit it on a 1/2 sheet of depron.

I could look into a basic spray mask, but the problem is having enough horizontal space to allow many sheets to be drying at once.

I have a lot of other depron planes drawn up, some cut and flying, some just digital lines. Some will be released and some will just be my personal "fun flyers". Heck, the F-22 was flying in the early spring of 2008. I hadn't planned on ever releasing it, but the local guys wanted some, so I figurd "why not".

The Magpie is definitely "homely"! But it's also as easy, if not easier to fly than a Slow Stick, so it makes up for it.

I do like it and I may just order one. Question though, does it come painted all nice like the pictures on your site (the Langley and Thunderbird schemes?) or do I open the box and just have a bunch of white depron?
