If you look at the eflite 777, (similar specs, size, etc. as the 757) you'll notice the wings have been modified to produce more lift for the aircraft when flying at slow speeds. (more wing area added) You'll find this in alot of scale models. I believe this is crucial to the stability of a scale model airliner. On my 757 however, I really didn't want to take away from the scale dynamics of the wing. I also felt like this wing would be a little small to try and develop a nice functioning flap system at this point... not to mention, I'm looking forward to a problem free maiden. What I've decided to do is design the wing with a stationary "take off flaps and forward slats" setting. This will add wing area, produce more lift for slower speeds, and keep the jet looking scale all in one. questions, comments, suggestions? Broc

After several renditions of the wing design, i've finally dialed it in and I'm going for the kill. Sadly it took an extra few weeks to develop the design. The kits and plans will be delayed
my girlfriend is ready to kill me. I'm spending alot of time thinking things out. I've installed the retracts ( which was a difficult task on this jet, and i recommend servoless retracts if you can afford them), and set up the spoiler hook ups. The spoilers are the balsa strips seen on the top of the wing, and are linked directly to the eilerons.. they work really nice... and the wing is so light, I can already feel the lift being generated just by swinging them in a circle around my shop. dihedral and downwash were carefully calculated. please ignore the black depron as it will be covered.

I've got a new set of wings coming along very nicely.. the servo retract problem should be resolved- I've got a new way to rig the linkage with much much less bend. found a nice kozy spot for the servo. I stole the idea from an airfrance a318 made from depron by larry lewis. Great build.. type " A depron airliner" into the search and that will bring it up. in the meantime, I've been goofin around with an ALL CARBON FIBER landing gear set. The axles, truck, and strut are all CF and I'm very impressed by the strength and weight. This may not be a new concept to some of you, but I'm lovin this like crazy.

FWIW, Boeing's new Dreamliner(?) either rolls out today or has it's first flight. I think the first flight is planned for today. would like to go up to Seattle or wherever it is and see that new plane. you will probably see news blurbs tonight on the news if they do fly or just roll out. (weather permitting).

Wow, I've seen renditions of the wing flex, but...wow. That sucker was really flexing!

Creating the leading edge slats is fine as it contributes to detail observed and only helps in fudging the sq inches... : ) However, induced drag of a constant flap will not permit the wing to do its thing... creating needless contradiction in flight. Creating a flap which does not require a great deal of complexity, yet lets you retract them easily with minimum impact on the AUW is not that big a deal. I invite you to observe the YouTube flap system used on the Tu-95. I posted top, bottom and servo movement videos showing how a single servo provided scale fowler locomotion for this award winning Tu-95. Its a simple do...with minimum expense that sits at CG with no need to offset in the nose. A single servo (sail wench servo with metal arm) Could have sworn I posted YouTube here before...glitch free...not now...

Looking good! Boy, you went all out on the wings; fowler flaps, spoilers, leading edge slats, the works!
Can't wait to see the finished product. |

Is there anything new with this project? I really want to order plans and a nose section but am unsure if they are available since a lot of the scalejet website is out of service.

Actually, I am interested in whatever CAD files and templates you have rendered. I know its a crunch for a lot of guys right now with the economy...I have been deep in the CNC elements of various components so I can put off the large $ out flow for a little longer. I am interested in enlargement about 50%.

hey guys, I have been working with some investors to produce a 757 ARF kit that will hopefully be available sometime later this year. As far as my website.. it still needs a serious update, but the plastic nose section is still available without plans. I have sold a few and so far, people have very good things to say about them. You are more then welcome to order nose sections through the website at this time. www.scalejet.net Thanks for your interest! Broc

This is really cool. If I can learn to fly finally, I'd love to do something like this. My dad flies Airbus A320s, but I've always liked 757s.
What are the final costs approximately? What kind of tools do you need to cut the foam? |
