Default The New GWS SLOW STICK

YES The NEW GWS SLOW STICK!

Pictures from the Build!

And new information about the kit.

First thing that GWS has changed is the Bok its a lot smaller and even has a handle on it.

When I opened the bx the first thing I noticed was that the medal frame now comes in 2 sections! ( more later)

on page 2 of the manual you will see tha the kit also now comes with a new part PMSPC-1023
(Push rod lock head) well they were not in my kit!
GWS has updated the manual And in teh 2nd one I bought! there was a piece of paper to show how to make z-bends ans say the push rods are optional)

on page 2 the manual says the kits comes with PXISOF-4P-2062R
Cowling fixing screw M2

and PXISOF-4P-2062R
Cowling fixing screw M3

also PWWAHF43052050R ( Washer)
also PWWAHF43052050R ( Washer)

and PWNUT43162040R (labeled as Fiber Glass spar but the picture shows a nut)

All these items were missing from my kit!

Thank good for spare parts!

Moving on the build is the same GWS slow stick build ( now for some great news GWS has made the foam pieces of the Slow stick tail out of thicker foam) it is not the old cheap red depron looking foam but a white foam core with red on both sides thicker foam. good job GWS

Also now on page 5 they show a Instalation position of all the plastic parts if your are going to use a lipo setup!

on page 6 they show the stock setup for the old slow stick.

On page 5 they also show the Fuselage Assembly using as I stated before the 2 piece frame good I guess if you want to break down your plane for transporting. and I guess if you break the fron or bend your frame just replace the front portion and your done might be some help! jury still out on this change.

jumping to page 9 they show the new Push rod locks being used!

Besides that everything else looks the same

This explains why almost everyone is out of stock on the SS. They are awaiting the new batch!

I'm betting the two-piece stick is so they can ship it in a smaller box.

Did it come with the 'normal' looking foam wheels or did you add them?

Hello!

I added the foam wheels!

The kit is in a much smaller box, the new box is about the size of one side of the wing! and yes im sure that was also one reason for the 2 piece stick! I flew it with the bp21 motor and it fly alot better then the stock 300 motor ever did will go vertical at 3/4 stick allmost hover, im only spinning a 9050 prop and with the bp12 motor I can turn a 1147 prop with the same setup Im going to team up with one of my venders to offer a slowstick Bp12 combo motor/esc for about $45.00 so stay tunned

Otherwise gota love this plane!

Thanks Robert. I love mine too. Beat up and ugly as it is these days.

I fly mine with an SK400XT outrunner, 9x6 APC prop, TowerPro 15A ESC and 3S 1050 and 1700 Vampower lipos. Amazingly fun to fly.

That $45 setup sounds like it would be a deal!

Yes I am familiar with the BP motors. I don't like them. Others do. Would pull an SS around quite well.

Ouch!. One of my friends in NJ has that combo for $31 and $4 shipping. I just got the motor/connectors and the ESC is on the way.

Ask the old guy how to fly the plane....... He's still alive!!

Yeah I see alot of people offering the towerpro combo for $34.99 + $2.95 for the gold 3.5mm conectors.

Its a good deal but or Dualsky speed controller is half the size and weight! and is programable.

No jumper for 2-3 cells.

And has a slow startup feature and has full movement through the stick not just on and full power like alot of the tower pro esc's I have seen.

I still think for $59.99 this is the Best deal for a truely rtf brushless sytem!

Good deal Doc, a very good deal indeed.


Regarding the new and improved "version". I never liked the idea of a split boom to begin with, I like it even less on the new model where the end user is forced to "take it" whether we like it or not. A split boom makes for a weaker "airframe", one that won't survive beginner's mistakes as nicely as the original has. :o

It may appear like a smart move on GWS' part, in the end it will doom the model to failure as a viable beginner's option. The argument about "ease of transportation" for the "split boom" is not a valid one either. Dismantling that bird for transport and reassembling at any field will take a good 10 minutes for each operation. Then there is the "are the elevator and rudder trims OK" factor to take into consideration. The minuses are greater than the pluses. I'll stop by my LHS and pick one of the older ones up. I won't touch the new one with a ten foot pole, period.

If this is the only version that will be available in the future, the model's fate has been sealed by itd manufacturer. It is doomed to fail miserably. :o

There is nothing easier and friendler than throwing a single piece, "rigid boomed" Slow Stick on the back seat and just pull it out, put its wing on and go fly whenever one feels like so doing.

IMHO, GWS has managed to accomplish the impossible, They have screwed up the venerable Slow Stick beyond recognition. The chance for it to be recommended as a viable, useful and long lasting trainer no longer exist.

I have removed the "model" from my SIG.

I think your are right on target Qb I think the two piece boom is doomed for failure as well. One of the big advantages of the SS in my eyes is durability and ease of use. I see most if not all folks leaving the tail on anyway... but it does create a weak link and another point of failure.

I think in their haste to save a few bucks in shipping costs they have gone down the wrong road.

It does, and so happens that it is located so close to the model's rear end support. That plastic square won't hold long before giving up. Can anyone imagine a weak tail end letting go in flight?

They have just killed a nice model. No longer a viable option to rank beginners.

Oh. Just the power set. For some reason I thought you were offering the airplane too at that price.

Here's my reasoning.

$21 sloper kit
$10 Motor
$15 ESC
$2 connectors

$48 total.

Those are prices that I as somebody who is not a dealer can buy all those items for right now.

If you don't like the two piece shtick so much, why not just glue/fuse/solder/weld the thing so it never comes apart and everyone can be happy again? I don't like a two piece thingy either, but why not just make it a permanent one piece?

Some of you fellas need a hanky. And you call slimers resistant to change. Right. I can imagine that the newer size box serves a couple of functions. One -less material to create one. Two - It's more eco-friendly. Three - I would bet they are cutting a fair amount of money off shipping. Just think of it as measures taken to eliminate the need for price mark-up. They did it all for you. Just like the drug and oil companies. LOL

This looks like a good deal. I think we are spoiled now when $50 is a lot to pay for a bl motor/esc! I have an old AF 020 with ESC that was over $200..

I have a question, is the shaft replaceable if you tweak it real bad? If so, how much?

I thought it dumb that the instructions for my SS told me to cut the fuse near the tail. Who in the hell needs the ability to remove the tail on a SS? I leave the whole thing together all the time and I have a Mazda wagon with 4 people in it.

That is what the truth is I'd wager. Shipping costs. They can fit just that many more in a shipping container from China. I'd also wager the shipping is the single most costly part of the whole model too.

As for the two-piece stick. Geez. Get over it.

It is near the tail wheel bracket. In the same spot they "recommend" for the old one to be cut for "ease of transportation" (?).

Well, Mr. Lin has decided that since we were not following his instructions on "cutting it" he's gonna do it for us, while saving money on a smaller box at the same time. I guess he is convinced that since more of these will break quicker he'll be selling more of them.

Fat chance I say. I am no longer recommending the new version to anyone. If you can find one of the original ones, get them before they dissapear from the marketplace.
