That's pretty nifty! Can you post a few pics of how your control surfaces are done? I might have a suggestion or two that would allow both aileron and elevator to work simultaneously.

I will get some pictures to you soon, but if you look at the video where it sits on the chair, the rudder is in the back of the vertical component inside the ring. Aft, the horizontal slab is divided in 2 segments to make up my elevron.

OK, so here's what I would suggest. At the rear of the center section that is horizontal inside the loop, I would cut ailerons into the foam and then ditch the elevator on the rear altogether. Then use only 3 servos total, 2 for elevon and 1 for rudder.
This would give you both elevator and aileron control together. |

Thanks for the tip.
I had thought about it, but decided no, because the circular section flys about 20 degrees up in normal flight. So if you try a loop or go real steep, you will have poor and turbulent airflow across the control surfaces. When I added the rudder, it does not help that much in a turn. As you can see, I got good control at the end and that is good enough for now. Anyway, I am working on about 3 other projects (STOL, airbrakes, and high alpha)so this one is on the back burner for now. If I ever run out of projects, might try your suggestion. In fact, thanks to you, I might even set up dual elevrons with one set of servos. Have you ever thought about using dual set of elevrons on your mini F-22 using only 2 servos? |

I have done that on the bigger birds, but on the smaller ones it is not necessary. But on the bigger ones it does help with the roll rate.
