The venue for WATTFEST 2011

I went out to the TRAC field today and took some pictures of the flying site. Its easy to find, just a mile NorthEast of the intersection of I-75 and I-4. I will get a map posted soon, for now here are some pictures of the site for the event. I will post a link to the club website very soon.

I snuck out early Tuesday morning while everyone was at work. And yes, we did sneak in a few flights, was so cool to have the field to ourselves this morning.

I am in Tampa and looking for a club to join. What is the best day and time to come out for a visit? Took a ride over one Sunday afternoon, but didn't see any activity nor saw a gate that was marked as the club member / visitor entrance. Is it the main gate to the landfill?

Hello, I am surprised noone was there on a Sunday, sometimes people get there a little later that day. Saturdays is a good day to know someone is going to be there for sure. Here is the link to the TRAC website there is a map to make sure you are at the flying field entrance and not the dump across the way. The landfill entrance is not the entrance to the flying field. The flying field entrance is on Taylor road. Come on out and meet some of the people, not only do we have a great venue, we have a lot of great people and their interests cover all aspects of RC flying. I hope to be there Saturday morning, I hope we get a chance to meet and I can tell you about the group.

If I remember correctly, it was around 3:00 PM when I went by, so probably came at a bad time to catch someone there. I'll show up bright and early one Saturday morning when it's good weather. Thank you, Denny.

All you need is your current AMA and you are welcome to come fly as a guest for the day. Just introduce yourself with your AMA card and ask if you can fly as a guest, I am sure someone will accomidate you.

This is a Sunday only event? I was just noting the date. Too far for me to go for a one day event.

By the way you will very likely attract more "one day" drive guys if you do this on a Saturday. Folks can drive Friday PM after work fly Sat and leave Sunday. Just a thought.

I see you are in Texas, honestly we had no idea someone would drive that far to the event. We are new at this, I am sure we will learn a lot from this first event. We are always open to inputs. We have another thread something like "what would you like to see at an electric event" and noone has commented on Saturday or Sunday. This is the kind of information we were looking for, but had no idea people from so far away would be interested. If we find enough people are interested, we may see about having it a different day or a 2 day event. Being the first time, we didnt want to jump in the deep end right off and realize we couldnt deal with it. Thanks for your input.

People drive from all over the country for good events. SEFF, BEST, NEAC, Arizona Electric and Huckfests.

For our Fly-Low in event I ran a week ago we had folks in Texas from Ohio, Hawaii, California and closer points.

But your right most don't drive that far for smaller stuff. Looks like this is that.

Mike, you have me laughing here. There are many good and great events that are one and two day events. I have been to many regional ones and everyone had a great time. Its obvious you want this seen as a small event, thats fine. If you think this is a 2 day event with onsite camping and on the size of SEFF, no, its not, not this year. If we get enough of a response that a larger size event is warranted, that will be evaluated and the event run accordingly. Doesnt matter what event you ran, this is not your event. We seek constructive criticism and input, yours does not seem to fit the spirit of that. If you have sincere positive ideas and present them as such, to make this event better, please present them in that manner. If I am mistaken and this is just how you communicate with others, well, good luck.

I made suggestions for your event in the other thread not realizing they were the same. My honest best of luck for your event and you are right it is not mine to run.

Please don't become defensive or disappointed if all ideas are not adopted. As with most events, there are considerations at each location that should be incorperated into the way the event is run, especially the first time. We will do all we can, but can't incorperate every suggestion. Thanks to those that have given input thus far.

Hey jerry, we will have a breakfast, either donuts or its under consideration to make some bacon and eggs for breakfast. The grill will be online for most of teh day for burgers and dogs. chips and drinks also available of course. There are several places to eat nearby, we had planned on a map of them posted at the event . Look forward to sseeing you there.

This years WATTFEST will have coffee and doughnuts in the morning available. A bit later there will be hotdogs, hamburgers and BBQ with fries. Drinks and Sno cones will also be available. There are several restraunts very closeby if you prefer any of them.
